transmission oil cooler change....

Sorry if its a stupid question ( probably is ! ) but, when changing the tranny oil radiator will doing so mean loss of transmission fluid meaning a change of same ? I am having the main radiator changed due to possible gearbox o/heating (held 3rd gear/high revs today...seems like 'cooling mode') and figured may as well change oil cooler as well, but if box oil needs changing as well my local guy has already said probably best for specialist to do that, which i can appreciate.
Oh,its an '02 4.4 v8 petrol.
any advice welcome.
