How does your heated windscreen perform?

Don't get me wrong I love the fact I've a heated windscreen but it kinda annoys me that it doesn't defrost the whole screen.

Does 6-8" in from the passenger side and 3" or so in from drivers!

Is this normal? TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

My pass side is your drivers - and I've got about 3" on both sides. Look closely at the windshield during daytime. You can see the very fine wires embedded in the glass. If there are wires where there is no defrost, you have a prob.

No, this is not normal, you need a new screen. Ring your ins co and say there is a chip and you DONT want a repair.

Mine was dirty on the inside and no amount of cleaning would get rid of the smear so I got a new one, just had to pay a £75 excess.

Thanks,

thought I'd post here and check what's normal before I put in a claim for a new windscreen.

I get wind noise from the windscreen seal anyway so could cure two jobs! TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

Autoglass did mine, but I have noticed they've introduced a wind noise that wasn't there before. Upon further investigation the side trims aren't stuck down properly because they re-used them. I'll order some more and then it should be 100%.

The thing to do is to go over it after they've done it to make sure it's ok. I'd definitely get it done again without a worry.

And make sure they are careful around the wiring from the rear view mirror! Autoglass cut through eight wires when changing my screen on a previous FFRR.....

If you can avoid a new screen I would, it can only add to your problems. Discovery 4 HSE

you can't repair heated screens anyway. We had a Fiesta XR2i once and that was heated. There was a couple of stone chips and we looked into repairing them. We found a company who came out and ended up splitting the screen. Ended up going to Autoglass who said no repair should have taken place. Any reputable company won't repair as it damages the heating elements (which in our case were already damaged due to the chips). 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

That was my argument with my ins co, that the chips had already damaged the heating elements. My screen was really pitted and one of the chips had started to spider, in fact I have a whole thread about Autoglasss Windscreen replacement: http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic919.html

& RRUK: Why would it add to his problems? His heated screen doesn't currently work, a new one really is the only way to go. Plus there is no way to tell if this is already a replacement screen. A surprising amount get broken whilst shipping from factory to the dealer and they end up calling autoglass out themselves.

If they call out Autoglass and have the screen replaced then it will not have the LR logo on the glass. It's exactly the same screen (made by Pilkington) but any replacement will not have a LR logo.
