Built but not available

My new Range Rover was built on Thursday last week but apparently has not left the factory yet. It needs to transfer to the compound before my dealer can get it. Anyone else experienced delays of this nature? Hoping it releases tomorrow so I can have it for the weekend - maybe. Geoff

Ours was built a week last Friday took LR a week to release it to the dealer and then 3 days to get it delivered and PDI'd picked it up yesterday

Mine was built last Tuesday but isn't arriving at my dealer until Monday (so nearly 2 week transfer time).

Dealer need 2 days to update software and do other PDI checks, so collect Wednesday (hopefully!)

I heard that delays on cars leaving the factory are often due to issues that need sorting out - quality control I guess. In the back of my mind I worry that delays of more than a few days imply significant problems or a large backlog of vehicles with smaller problems. Given land rovers reliability reputation seeing either scenario before the car has even left the factory is disconcerting.

That said, other than the odd minor thing I am not hearing about major disappointments on quality or reliability so perhaps nothing to worry about - perhaps rigorous quality contol is catching any issues pre delivery - in which case nothing to worry about.

Thoughts.... Geoff

It might be a good thing, they're not letting any issue get to the dealer, or even worse, the customer. maybe we'll get jaguar like quality.

Update on the frustration that started the post.

Car was released to the compound Wednesday - so it was held up for 12 days. No explanation as to the problem / reason for the delay - I believe the salesman (who has been brilliant) tried to get an explanation but no joy. So Land Rover rushed the car through for me to collect this afternoon and I transferred a rather large wedge of cash yesterday in anticipation of collecting this afternoon. Call just before I was going to head out to say it will now be tomorrow .... Hopefully. Apparently it needs a software update - guess it went out of date whilst being delayed at the factory - and the dealership don't have sufficiently good Internet so one of the guys will "try" and load the software tonight onto his laptop and try and load onto the car tomorrow.

Unbelievable that a new car is delivered out of the factory with incorrect software after having been delayed for, I presume, checks / quality control issues and then to find the dealer doesn't have the basic tools to rectify this is frankly laughable. But I'm not laughing.

This isn't good enough at any price let alone RR prices. Tempted to walk away but the car promises so much and there is no alternative on the market. Geoff

Mizengeo, was at the dealer yesterday, my lower tailgate didn't function properly so they fixed it with a piece that was ordered. Apparently a software update was done as well...

Still no car despite it supposed to have been delivered last Friday. Apparently it has been in quality control as the factory have run out of parking sensors (!), of which mine had 2 faulty ones.

Bit of a joke really, but at least my dealer got the bottom of the delay having chased Land Rover for an answer.

Hopefully it will arrive on Tuesday, and yes they need it for 4 days to do PDI, software update and some other stuff.

Personally I'd reject it and request another to be rushed through and built. The fact it has taken this long implies significant issues at the factory. All parking sensors will have been tested before they left their manufacturer and therefore, for you to have two faulty ones, it implies something else isn't quite right.

My 2010 "disappeared" at the factory after build for a week or so. When I went to take delivery it had clearly had rear end damage that had been badly repaired so make sure you do a thorough check. I rejected mine a reordered it.

Picked it up today. Wow. Incredible car and very happy. Dealer very apologetic but frankly the delay at the factory wan't in their control and despite problems loading software they did turn it round from arrival with them to delivery to me in less than 48 hours. Salesman spent half his day off on Wednesday organising special collection of the car to speed delivery. I'm happy! Geoff
