Windscreen Scratches

Can anyone please advise how to remove wiper scratches from the windscreen.. Have so far tried Farecla G3 applied with a Meguiars circular applicator pad but don't think they've all gone.

Have got a Sealey power tool for polishing with Farecla foam pads but not tried that.

Any advice would be appreciated/ thanks (no new windscreen jibes please Laughing )

Although that would certainly sort the problem once and for all.....Very very difficult removing scartches ,yes you can improve things but if they are in your line of vision you will always think you can still see them.

If you have windscreen insurance cover ....well Whistle

I have used this kit:

http://www.frost.co.uk/full-windscreen-scratch-repair-kit.html

Be aware that stuff flies everywhere when you use the drill to polish the screen and I would avoid getting any on the paintwork given that it is clearly very abrasive. My wife thinks I am mad but I covered the car with old duvet covers & sheets! Laughing

I am very pleased with the results. Thumbs Up

Thanks... didn't know scratches can cause an MOT fail... you can't feel these with a fingernail though/ they are wiper arc scratches...

Replacing a heated windscreen must have cost your insurance a pretty penny. Given the more complex nature of a heated windscreen is replacement something that can be tackled by your Autoglass type business or does it need to go back to a franchised dealer?

I too have significant wiper scratches on my windscreen and am wondering if it would be covered under warranty. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

Our screen has obv been replaced as it hasn't got the LR stamp so might have been an insurance claim and one of their approved repairers such as AG...

These approved repair companies generally replace the glass with glass that does not have the given car manufacturer's stamp on and if you want the 'manufacturer's glass' the company will generally charge an extra premium.

Our last car had 2 windscreens in 9 months and they damaged trim when fitting (e.g inner pillar lining and wiper arm).. but they did replace damaged parts when it was pointed out.

If you have a rotary polisher it can be done. You need thin felt or rayon pads and some cerium oxide compound. Oh, and LOTS of elbow grease.

Keep it moving, keep it misted with water and don't get so carried away that it gets too hot.

Drill mounted things don't work as you can't get enough pressure on them so it needs to be a full rotary polisher. Dual action polishers are a waste of time for this.

MOT Cover?

I think unless you could show that a faulty wiper part caused scratches beyond your control you might struggle to make a warranty claim... a standard insurance windscreen claim maybe...

What would be interesting would be if scrtaches to a screen was deemed an MOT fail would LR MOT fail cover kick in?[/quote]

Just to show that thos forum can be useful for things non ff related.

Was having a browse through stuff and stumbled on this thread, turned out to be very useful as i need to grt a scratch out of a double glazed unit at work. Have ordered a polishing kit for heavy scratches off the net. Will give it a go. If not im gong to have to replace the unit. So worth a shot. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
