Scottish travel help!

Thinking of picking something up in Kilmarnock and bringing it south on Friday night but most route planners are saying I should head to glas on the m77 and then south on the M74 but it looks like I could cut cross country and save some time by using the A71 to starthaven and then drop onto the M74/M6 for the trip home but is it littered with little hamlets where you go from 60-30-60-30 all the time?

Any help appreciated and we are talking about 9pm at night Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Suppose it's what you know Will with Motorways being 70 , coz the A76 out of Kilmarnock although going thru (Hamlets) Laughing Laughing Laughing if you don't know the road can sort of slow you down , but it is still a fast road in places …

If it was me it would be A76 , A75 then M74/6

But if you prefer M/ways … Out of Kilmarnock up the M77 , Junction 5 head for East Kilbride A726 , 2nd roundabout take the last exit , along the Queensway 5th roundabout take a left , thats you on the A725 straight down till the 2nd roundabout , 3rd exit all the way down the A725 till you come to another roundabout 2nd exit , next roundabout last exit and thats you on the M74 Southbound ….. and you can Censored off to whence you came from …. Laughing Laughing

Thumbs Up

At that time of day definitely A71/M74/M6. Have lived on the 71 for 10 years and tried all combinations, the Stranraer road has 50 mph AVERAGE speed cameras running for 40/50 miles to just south of Kilmarnock, the 71 is mostly 60 and the villages will be empty at 9 pm, hope this helps Very Happy 2013 L405 Autobiography Baltic Blue

The M6 at junction 44 going south is a favourite place for speed cameras on the overhead bridge.
They pick up dozens or more every day.
Pays for the pies for Cumbria Constabulary. Very Happy
By the time you get near to the bridge it's too late. Thumbs Up
Also Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary like to cruise the M74 in un-marked cars looking for cars going a tad fast.

Ive been doing the M6-M74-A75 route for years with family but never much north of it so its all good Smile

I think i'll stick the cruise at the speed limit and see if i can get the best from the tank of juice on the way home Smile

Also just to add when you join the M77 in Glasgow keep it at 50 as it is teaming with unmarked patrol cars of all shapes and sizes. Last one I drove past pulling someone was an unmarked silver vw van!
