Would you take your car to National tyres for an oil change.

For a while now, National tyres have been offering fixed price oil and filter changes for really decent prices. If I put my reg number in, they can do it for £72 with a further 10% off for booking online which leaves the price at around £64 which is quite a bargain. The oil used is Castrol Magnatec 5w30 fully synthetic.

I've used this service on my old Audi TT once and the oil change was done without fuss and within an hour. A health check was done on the car but nothing else was forced onto me to buy.

So, would you guys be willing to take your car for an interim oil and filter change at this fast fit chain?

I would. As long as it isn't a really crappy oil used. Can't go wrong at that price. They won't make your engine last less time. Do they do gearbox for that price? My Previous RR's!

Just basic oil and filter change. I wouldn't really trust them with anything else to be fair. They're a good in and out place for basic maintenance.

They seem to stock all the Castrol oils and previously, i had Castrol Edge put in my TT which was what the Audi dealers used for a time.

Just checked the price for my 2006 TD6 - £85 using Castrol Edge 5w 40. The oil itself is £41 per 4 litres from Halfords, so it seems a good price to me. I'm due an oil change so I'll give it a go next week. I can easily use £80 worth of fuel just running the missus around on silly errands, so £85 for an oil change seems cost effective. Chris.

It seems a very reasonable price, although I would be tempted to spend that hour doing it myself and the saving on using Genuine filters.

That said, I've used National Tyres (for tyres) a few times in the past and they were pretty knowledgeable and very good. Si. <This is my name.

Halfords are currently doing 4 litres of their own brand oil for £10. This includes fully synthetic 5w30 and 5w40 however none of their options seem to match Land Rover spec. I might be wrong though.

It's the oil change I'm interested in. I'll change the oil filter for a 'proper' one myself after it's done. I've got a K&N air filter which I'll clean myself so no probs there. If I encounter any difficulties with their service next week I'll update the thread.
Chris.

PS I used to own a 300TDI disco and changed the oil & filter every 6K miles on that. Servicing that was a lot cheaper than RR!

I've been taking the FFRR into the specialists for all servicing as those that don't know the cars can easily make a very expensive hash of things. Big Cry trust me, I know! Big Cry

Just changed the oil in the V8 Disco 1 yesterday. WHAT A PAIN IN THE Censored ! Couldn't get the drain plug to budge without going out to get a ridiculously large spanner. Two hardware stores to even find one the right size. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Even then it wouldn't move. Twisted Evil Censored Evil or Very Mad Censored Big Cry Finally had to put the winch on the spanner. Shocked After that, things went smoothly, but it turned into a L O N G, annoying job.

At least I'll be set for next time. Thumbs Up

I took mine National Tyres every 3000 mile for oil and filter and there price got cheaper every time I went(£55 for last one), I even got them to fill me a 2litre bottle for topping up. But they did snap my oil filter bracket and didn't tell me Big Cry

I took mine there yesterday for 3 new tyres, he got in the car, got out and asked me how to lock off the suspension .... then offered to do tracking for £105, then couldnt do a bit of it so reduced to £75, then couldnt even get the adjusting nut (??) undone so didnt do it at all for £0 Confused

think i'll probably let them do oil and filter at most Neutral 2007 3.0L Diesel VW Touareg SE

My mechanic said, for alignments, that the car must be put in 'high tolerance mode" before starting the alignment. (Done with the computer.) If that's not happening, the alignment is pointless. If they can't lock the suspension... Whistle

I wouldn't bother going anywhere for alignment that doesn't have a proper Hunter machine.

i would!

i had my alignment done on a hunter machine at kwik-fit' when i got the car. -about £60-something quid. whilst at a national tyres depot for another reason, i asked for a quote for a tyre for the FF. £430 quid. EACH! -pirreli.
as for the oil change. i will probanbly take mine there. but i wil crack off the filter top first, (bmw vCool and then know it wont be broken of it's mount for me. that price is too good.
