I want a Range Rover to replace my current 2005 Audi A6 3.0 TDi Quattro Le Mans. I thought I wanted a RRS but do feel the interior is to, shall we say, industrial. I can't quite run to a new RRS which does look fantastic - I went to the launch last Thursday and it is spectacular. So I am now thinking of a FFRR.

Interior wise I know what I want. Cream leather, TV, Rear DVD screens, Adaptive Cruise Control, preferably not wood but am negotiable on that, Reversing Camera,

Engine wise - this is where I am confused. I do between 12 and 15K a year, and my thoughts are with the TDV8. However confusion arises when I read about the S/C almost equalling on fuel cost over a range of miles. My daily work commute is about 14 miles on B roads, which the Audi does at about 32mpg. In the two years since I have had the Audi, it averages about 32mpg over all journeys, it can touch 37mpg on a motorway run.
I am a family of five, who next summer will intend to drive to the Italian lakes for a bit of a holiday, hence the planning now for a suitable vehicle!

Also, I get confused about the differing facelifts, either production or those done individually.

So, experts, over to you. I have up to 25K which must include any slush fund to pay for a new gearbox should it be necessary! So approx. 22K for the purchase. In your opinion, what should I buy?

it will leave more than enough for a warranty and being under 100k it should get one easily as well.
It will also leave money for you to get a good service of all fluids done, and a new heated seat element and a good car would be yours. Fair enough the colours aren't what you want and no RSE but the money you save on RSE you can spend on 2-3ipads making little ones happier for the journey when loaded up with movies and allows more flexibility as well as RSE is quite limiting really and screen is smaller than an ipad/playbook. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I'd second the opinion of getting iPads rather than RSE. They're so much more flexible and a lot cheaper.

Just a word for you on the petrols: while they drink like fish in town, they're remarkably good on a country run. You mention B road driving. Country roads with the cruise control at about 50 mph can see mileages approaching 10L/100km.

No, a Supercharged will NEVER do 30mpg on a run, maximum about 23 maybe if you keep the speed right down.

Yes, they are more fuel efficient than ever but they are still either a 4.2 or 5.0 litre V8 petrol pulling around a 2.7T car.

If you like a bit of speed you can always get a TDV8 remapped, it makes a huge difference, I had mine done and never looked back. Discovery 4 HSE

My first drive in a 4.2 SC (drove it like Miss Daisy):
200 miles travelled at about 60mph saw an unexpected 28.4 mpg.

My brief experience is that on mid to long range journeys 20 to 23 mpg is definitely achievable if the car is driven smoothly and carefully.

Around town and around the houses can see 17 mpg if driven carefully but if driving 'normally' 14 to 15 mpg seems to be a common mpg figure. But... If mpg will be dominating your thoughts and wallet when driving, perhaps an alternative to an SC might be considered.

It is not dominating - but in this current climate it has to be a consideration!
My man maths worked out 10L/100KM to be just under 30mpg hence why I asked the S/C question.
From the replies though, TDV8 it is I think.

What are the thoughts on the facelift conversions that are available? Some look, in photos, great!
