United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Santorini Black
Question re Colour coding grill surround, handles etc...

Hi all,

I have a 2010 TDV8 Vogue in Santorini Black... It was at the dealers having a few minor niggles sorted under the warranty last week when it suffered a minor dink in thier hands Big Cry nothing major (dink master job really)...Nonetheless, they insisted it go off to their body shop today to be dealt with and whilst it was there I was toying with the idea of getting my side fins, door handles and grill surround trim colour coded, similar to a 2012 model.

I've been quoted £850 + VAT (reduced to £650 +VAT because of inconvenience) to prep, paint and fit the existing trim by their body shop, but this is to simply prep/colour code and refit the existing trim... Is this a reasonable price? Should the surround trim to the front grill be colour coded or gloss black (Is it a seperate part which comes already painted? the dealer didn't seem to know) Shocked ... What's the opinion of the forum?

Any guidance, opinions and info would be gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks

You could buy a colour coded grill and side vents for less than that and sell your old ones on here or ebay (They are very simple to swap) The only thing left would be your door handles, I wonder if you could the handles done for free ? Thanks for the quick response and kind welcome jez, much appreciated Smile

Nothing to loose by asking the question I suppose, I'll call the dealer tomorrow Smile ... I've looked on ebay, for genuine LR but only able to find gloss black side vents (not sure if genuine either), I cant seem to find any colour coded to santorini black... Don't suppose you know where else I could try do you?

Thanks again

Hi Ray,

I had my fins, grill and handles colour coded, made a nice difference. To do the handles properly, they need to taken off, prepped, primed and painted. Had mine done at an authorised JLR bodywork shop for £600 cash. Current MY2020

Thanks for suggestion jez. Spoke to Dan (he's very helpful indeed), apparently a primed grill surround is more expensive than a pre-painted gloss black one. £545 + VAT for colour coded side vents and black gloss grill, but still leaves me having to paint the handles (unless the dealer offer to do for free!).

I think I'm leaning towards a colour coded grill surround rather than a gloss black one, worried that the gloss black wont look quite right against santorini, cant tell from pics I've seen so far..

AMD - was that £600 for everything to be colour coded? fins, grill and handles? Thought about offering cash to omit Mr Osborne's cut, but LR dealer unlikely be willing!

Cheers for the input. Better to be irresponsible and right, than to be responsible and wrong.

Yep, £600 the lot and a very good job they did. I did pay cash, what the garage did with the cash was his business Whistle Current MY2020

Is it OK to paint the 2010 on handles? Lots on here say paint doesn't stick well to the handles, something to do with the wax content in the plastic.... I think that's why the snap- on covers are so popular.

Pass im not sure, this never occurred to me!...The bodyshop didn't seem to think it was an issue to do... wouldnt they have to rub them down and prime them before painting..? I'll ask them the question tomorrow & report back with what is said. Meanwhile, hopefully someone else with more experience / knowledge of such matters than my limited understanding can confirm either way, before I comit to letting the bodyshop paint the exsisting handles. Better to be irresponsible and right, than to be responsible and wrong.

It has been said the handles are not the easiest to repaint unless time is taken to prep them properly due to the wax content. Hence they need to be taken off and prepared thoroughly before priming. This takes time and time costs money, the easiest solution is to install covers. Current MY2020
