2012 FFRR Suspension Compressor Noise/Drone

When sitting in our FF with the engine idling on the driveway or when sitting at lights I can hear the suspension compressor rumbling in the boot when the radio is switched off. When standing outside the car you can hear the drone from it slightly over the exhaust noise.

This is on a 2012 FFRR with 4k miles on it. On our old 2008 (Jayboy's FF) the compressor was completely silent and couldn't be heard at all.

We asked the dealer to look into this and they've said they compared it with a car they had and it was exactly the same but this other car wasn't available when I asked to hear it.

I'm convinced that I shouldn't be able to hear the compressor running at all and it's now slightly annoying.

What's everyone else's compressors like?

Thanks

Re: 2012 FFRR Suspension Compressor Noise/Drone

I was sitting in the rear of the SC one day when my wife reversed off the drive... And I heard said rumbling noise too... And it persisted for about 1/4 mile. Now, at the time, my wife had just reversed out of the garage where the car had been parked overnight in access mode and she drove off without setting the car at normal driving height. I took the car to the main dealer and the Master Tech said to hear the noise was normal, particularly in the back of the car and nothing to worry about.

TBH David it sounds like your is running a lot of the time. At standstill it shouldn't really need to run much if at all. Does the car sag if left for a long period at all on any corner?

Once the reservoir is upto pressure it should only need the odd top up unless some big corners or front-back manoeuvres are undertaken to unsettle it and cause air to be flowed into the bags.

There are incidents of reservoirs leaking a little or the pressure sensor on them failing(think flat accumulator on a Cit!) and they then cause the compressor to run a lot of the time.

Have you got anything in the boot that could be resting on the compressor and transmitting the vibrations thru the body at all? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Thanks guys, I was sure that I shouldn't be able to hear it on the new one after not being able to hear it on the old one.

Car doesn't drop at all if left on high over night, stays nice and level at all four corners too.

Will pay another visit to the dealer and get a listen to another one I think.
