FFRR vs Discovery 3/LR3 off road

I was wondering, in terms of off-road, which one is better The Range Rover or the discovery 3

I'm asking because I've seen more and more discos used off-road (I know the RR's price tag is also a factor) and for example the disco has a raised air intake, (also the RRSport) but the FFRR doesn't! I don't know if it make any difference because I don't have any experience with off-road, but am planning to start this summer and evolve my experience over the years! 2000 BMW M5, Avus Blue/LeMans Leather Interior

According to the instructors at the LR Off road Experience, the disco is better. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

You can make a valid argument for whichever you want to win and in the real world there is sod all in it , it's the nut behind the wheel that makes a difference . 2008 MY Supercharged

I agree with that!

Dumb question time Whistle What is the raised air intake used for primarily, and what are it's benefit! Being that there's no such thing that an OEM one for the FFRR? 2000 BMW M5, Avus Blue/LeMans Leather Interior

I was really impressed by all LR models (Freelander, Disco, Sport and FFRR) at the recent LR Offroad experience at Buckingham we went to recently - each vehicle completed the course without any trouble or getting stuck at/avoiding any obstacle.

Makes you realise how much better these cars are over and above nearly every other car available and what you are paying for.

FFRR is my choice off course of course

I doubt they would let you drive them somewhere they were likely to get stuck, as it's partly a PR exercise. Smile

I remember an instructor at a LR experience site telling us to avoid rocks in the FFRR as it had "low profile" tyres and they had to pay for any damage.
In the defender, they just let us get on with it. Very Happy

Rolling Eyes

My point was that over reasonably difficult terrain (due to their Terrain Response System) each vehicle was as competent as the next - The Freelander performed just as well as the FullFat etc. regardless of whether it was a PR exercise.

Because of what I experienced (and with all vehicles fitted with All-Terrain tyres) I doubt a more expensive Audi,BMW, Porsche or similar marketed 4x4 vehicle would have succeded OR offered any improvements over the Freelander, (or Defender) if going on the same offroad course.

The overall strength of chassis and off road capabilities are what you are paying for - compared to equally priced vehicles on the market - they cannot do what Land Rover vehicles can.
