Searching out the elusive front end knock.

Since replacing both front airstruts I have noticed a persistent knock from the front suspension area of my car. But first up was new front wheel bearings as the RH one was starting to protest. After that I started checking components and replacing in pairs what had not seemed quite right. I started with the antiroll bar drop links and all was good for a brief time. Then the knock returned so I checked and replaced the upper arm bushes and ball joints, shipping was a lot cheaper for parts instead of the arm. And yes the knock disappeared but only for a short time. So next it was the lower arms which seemed ok but what the heck lets replace them as I am getting desperate. After replacing these arms I grabbed a few rags and started wiping down a few mucky bits underneath the car and while giving the bottom steering knuckle a wipe I noticed it was moving. Not just round and round like it should do but up and down and sideways all the while producing a knocking sound. I grabbed my set of star drive sockets and found the appropriate one which was number 10 and tried to tighten the offending bolt but it wouldnt move. This caused a brief moment of worry as I had read that these steering racks are not cheap. But a quick turn of undoing the bolt and then doing up freed it up enough that I could wind it up nice and tight with the result of no movement apart from the appropriate ones.
I still have to put the car back on the ground go for a wee drive then drive up on blocks and tighten the arm bolts up.
Have I finally traced the source of the elusive front end knock. Fingers crossed
The last time I am aware of the steering column being worked on was when the PO had the upper column replaced about 5 years ago at their Stealer.

Damn and blast. Out for the test drive and EAS inactive message pops up.
Looks like I have spun the right front sensor 180 degrees as checking with the Gap tool it is ;FL -45 FR 80 RL -30 RR -6
Hopefully that will be all it is Wink

And yes it was. Two minutes with a couple of 10mm scanners and the car driven up on ramps and all is well again. Touch wood and fingers crossed.
