Multi Functions 2003/2004 L322 Head Unit

Hello

as you know the 2003 , 2004 Range Rover l322 head unit is BMW head unit , in the fact the whole entertainment system is BMW system.

the main weakness points in the mentioned system are:

The LCD as its a low resolution and not touch LCD screen.

The Navigation which out of date especially here in the middle east.

recently i have managed to connect my HTC one s mobile to the analogue TV module( AV-in/Audio-in) and i was able to use the up to date Google maps navigation , play games , video , music and see pictures through the OEM head unit.

the parts i have used were:

my HTC One S , HTC media Link HD , HDMI to AV convertor and AV INPUT & VIDEO IN MOTION FOR BMW.

HTC One S mobile connects to HTC media Link HD through WIFI and that is all.

it was a good experience and the only two things i did not like were:

the low resolution OEM LCD compared to the mobile LCD high resolution and the other point was the Mono sound.

i have seen many Topics here and on other forums regarding replacing the whole system with CarPc system and it a good option but i do not want to lose the ability to control and adjust the clock , on board computer , DSP , Air vent timer , etc..

because of that i was thinking if its possible to:

1- replacing the OEM LCD with 800x480 touch LCD
2- adding a switcher/controller between the OEM board and the new LCD to be able to deal with the car program (on board computer , DSP , Air vent timer , etc..) or to use the switch any time and let the new LCD connects to its own board (HDMI , VGA , Video-in) and receive the signal from another source as smart phone , DVD player , etc.

So what do you think about that?

Do the oem buttons just send messages down the ibus? Is so, you could maybe simulate those.

Have you got a picture of the rear of the oem screen? What are the connections?

If you could see what commands the oem unit sends, with say navcoder, you could perhaps do without it altogether. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Correct me if i am wrong : you are saying if we success to re-map the OEM buttons we could get rid of the new LCD buttons.

Simulating the OEM buttons to make them works with the new LCD when its being connected to another source is a good idea , but i believe its very advance step in this stage , as i am focusing right now on how to find a way to enable me to connect and disconnect the new LCD to/from the Range Rover Head Unit board with a just pushing a button.

The idea is simple and its hard at the same time.

we have the car head unit with its own low resolution LCD and with its own electronic board and its own buttons and we have at the other hand the new high resolution new LCD and its own electronic board and its own buttons.

we need remove the OEM LCD , and connect the new LCD and at the same time keep the new LCD board and buttons, which leads us to ask is the required switcher is available?

i was thinking of Mimics X2 module but i am not sure if its capable to do what we want , which is receiving signal from two different sources and delivering to one LCD monitor.

Regarding the OEM LCD connections , here is a video showing all the required information about that point

Thank you

another thought came to my mind just now.

is the OEM LCD capable to display 800x480 ?

which part is responsible for the low resolution of the OEM LCD

is it the board on the main Head unit?

or is it the analogue TV module?

So for those who replaced the analogue TV module withthe hybrid/Digital TV module , have you noticed any difference in the display resolution before and after?
