Recommendations for a 4x4 pick up

Just wondering if any you Gents out there use a 4x4 pick up and if so what you would advise in getting , kind of pondering whether to get shot of the FF as i might be diversifying into property maintenance and i cannot see me piling DIY tools and stuff into the back of the FF …..

Thumbs Up

TIA

i had a nissan navara when they first came out in 2005...it was an auto cos i forund the six speed box a bit difficult to change gear..nice drive if you're in the front ,not so much in the back though...with the light rear end it did bounce a bit on rough roads and in winter as i precaution i stuck bags of sharp sand in the back to weigh it down ..some pick up owners let the back fill up with snow to help the weight...its nothing compared to the range rover though.. ... - .- -.

Defender 130 Double Cab pickup.

You could buy a decent 300Tdi one and run it partly on veg oil (as I do with my 110) and it will be depreciation-proof and easy and cheap to run. With the right tweaks, they're quick-ish as well. Or buy a nearly-new TdCi for a lot more but with a slightly more 'modern' interior?

If you're after more creature comforts, then why not a diesel-powered Ford F-150 or Dodge Ram? Si. <This is my name.

I eat rat poison.

Mick are you after something to totally replace the FF or something that you could run as a company vehicle with 4x4 abilities and a large load area for chucking stuff in?

Amorok is a big old beast and not too bad on fuel but thirstier than an FF IMO.

Navara's are shocking vehicles pre 2011 models.

The old defender 130 double cab pickup is a good idea as its not loads of money, and you can install another battery and a second hand webasto and remote FBH control from pete bell to have it warm in winter, and upgrade the interior a bit to your liking without spending loads or keep i as a work horse and keep the FF.

Im guessing your after a pickup for the tax break? If so you can get 4motion VW vans as well and Transit ones that are much better for loads and such like. Fair enough they dont have four seats unless you get the crew versions but they are better beasts for their purposes at which point i'd reccomend an Iveco Daily for any long term work and low depreciation on 1-2year old vehicles and they are great for reliability and the driving position is more like a lorry as well Smile Strong torquey engines that arent bad on fuel either Smile

Spent a fair amount of my life in vans and some in pickups Sad

have you thought about a D4 commercial? £30ish-k for an XS new model, and you can stick seats in the back easy enough and retain the cheap tax and all as long as you let the insurance know Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Don't think there is a diesel powered F150. The F250 and F350 can be had with a V8 diesel. They are also enormous.

PS the dodge rams need to be 2500/3500 models to be able to spec them with the I6 cummins engine which is still a massive 6.7litre(i think!) engine bu has the potential with a remap for a LOT of torque...

And these are all LHD only models IIRC. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Well thinking of getting shot of the FF altogether and just buying a 4x4 pick up as my daily vehicle plus if I decide to do a bit of property maintenance it would be better than a FF Nowt to do with Tax breaks or anything just thinking that a pick up would be more practical

The top spec Amaroks seem to be very comfy according to the tests. Considering one for our "big" Southern Africa trip. SUV quality driving from a pick-up Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Mike,

How about a "van" disco (windows filled in at back.) a friend has one for his biz and so it's cheaper tax-wise.

But another option would be to keep the FFRR and get a nice trailer to keep your stuff on/on then you have the best of both worlds? Thumbs Up

+1 for Amarok, The Navara and L200 (in various guises) are still very good but the Amarok is a very nice tool. looks a bit less Pikey as well.

setting aside reliability and just basing my choice on looks, I quite like the New Toyota Hilux and the New Ford Ranger, but first choice would have to be a ...............

RAPTOR

anything else Yank I would be scared of looking like a REDNECK Shocked
