Steering elbow corrosion

Whilst checking my car today for any maintenance required I came across the following.
On the hydraulic pipework for the steering system is a steel elbow joining two pieces of flexible hydraulic pipe as indicated by the black arrow on the picture below.
The elbow is located behind the radiator, very low down, on the passenger side.
On my car this elbow was starting to show signs of surface corrosion.
Given the position of the elbow and its lack of protective coating this is to be expected.
Whilst the elbow is probably of substantial construction and will stand a fair amount of corrosion before failing and leaking steering fluid thus making the steering operation un-assisted, I felt it was desirable to minimise future corrosion.
To gain access to the elbow I removed the large black hose connected to the EGR valve (or it's substituted bye-pass) and reached down to the elbow and coated it all around with a liberal coating of general purpose grease.
This should suffice for a few years. Very Happy
I've not seen this topic mentioned anywhere on here but it might be worth anyone with a car over say 5 years old having a look at this elbow as if it failed it could be a real pig to replace.
You will need a torch to see it clearly. Thumbs Up

Have a look at it stan, it's in a really awkward place.
In fact thinking about it it's not replaceable on it's own it presumably comes with the hydraulic pipe either side of it.
