@Ryan - Brilliant write up. Scary! But very informative and well written. Thank you (on behalf of many I'm sure) this stuff is invaluable. Yes, I have a FF TD6 so well aware of the little moments they can have, this is a hard decision because the TD6 is running as sweet as ever. Funnily enough, the current SC owner previously had a TD6 too (he jumped ship after having to shell out for a gearbox!) and he says that apart from the EAS pump it's been faultless.

2009 D4; 1993 Classic 3.9 VSE

My SC was imported from the US (Texas by the looks of things) and has been sitting outside for 2 years without moving (all the paperwork matches up with the mileage it came with 48,000). It most likely killed my AC seals so that has been replaced about 1 1/2 year ago.

I am actually surprised that there aren't any more heat/moisture related problems to be honest. It could have been a lot worse.

The fuel system issues I have had are very likely caused by sitting still and having really crappy petrol in it. I was lucky that a brand new fuel pump set showed up on EBay. It drove fine just not as well as it should, now it is perfect.

The gearbox issue is just bad luck and the coolers is a -up by the mechanics and it took me too long to find out (a full year after they had put the water in, when the AC was done).

I would not hesitate to buy another SC, I would get one in a heartbeat, preferably a 5.0 if I could afford it. I would also still buy this model again since I now know the weak points (rear calipers and those two cooler/heat exchangers).

I still, despite the issues, don't regret getting this particular FFRR, it puts a smile on my face every single time I get in and I hope I will be able to keep it for many many years to come.

As for the coolers DEFINITELY change them for new ones is my opinion. They are not expensive (about 140 Euro each I believe) and putting them in is not easy (tight spot) but the boys did it quite quickly (the hoses are quick connect).

If they go then the cost is much much higher. First you need to flush the cooling system to get the oil/coolant mix out and that takes FOREVER. Worse is the gearbox, you have to change the ATF at least 5 or 6 times and that is VERY expensive if you use the ZF oil and expensive if you use another top quality ATF (I used the top spec Toyota ATF). Filter on mine is going to be replaced next and then the ZF ATF goes in.

The engine oil one, went a month later and again the cooling system needs to be flushed FOREVER, I still had crap coming out this week. I was lucky though, the oil seems clean (although during my Dec leave I will have it changed). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I've had mine over 4 years and apart from some wobbles (usually a minor issue on top of me having a bad week!) I still feel happy to own it and it's just sailed though another MOT with no advisories.
