Was looking forward to watching a film...

Projector bulb has blown.

Watching on my laptop isn't quite the same. Maybe I'll go out instead.

My fault for not having a spare bulb. I will admit though, the projector's 5 years old and I quite fancy a new one.

That's perfect justification. Obviously, the new bulb for an old projector costs more than a new projector.... Thumbs Up Graham

So, Range Rover owners also like projection TVs. Hmmm. I think it's the only way to go. Nice, big picture, disappears when you turn it off. Thumbs Up

Don't worry about not having a bulb. I wish I'd waited. I preemptively got one when I figured I had about 1/2 year left. Then projector suddenly up and died. (Benq - horrible service. DO NOT BUY). Finally told it wasn't worth repairing. Now have new (better) projector (NOT a Benq) AND a never used bulb for the old one. Evil or Very Mad

Stan, don't be silly. 8mm? No! SUPER8 all the way, baby! Mr. Green

Yes, so I can watch vintage porn. They're silent anyway so don't need sound.

It's an Optoma HD64.

It's only 720p which is a bit irritating as I have it running through a computer. It's also quite noisy, especially when I have the fire lit.

When I refurbished the lounge I didn't want it to be dominated by a big tv so went down the projector route. I have a ceiling mount with the cables hidden. This was when I was testing it out and getting the correct positioning when I was refurbishing.

As you can see, I could really do with one that's a bit brighter.

Cost of new bulb - a bit over £100. Cost of new 1080p projector - a bit over £500. Think I'll go for that. The one I'm looking at has a bulb life of 8000hrs compared to 2000-3000 for the current one, so factor that in and it's not a hard decision.

On a unrelated note: How much for the wood burner? Did you buy it in Switzerland?
I am looking to buy one here in the UK but want someting other than the usual black cast iron ones.

I bought 2 and they were for sale here in Switzerland but I found a special deal in Germany. I think they were about chf 3500 here, which is about £2500. I think I paid about 1200 eur and got the VAT back.

These are them when I picked them up - back in 2008.

They can kick out 9 kw when going at full rate, but similarly you can turn them right down and have them flickering gently. They're easy to lite and also to keep clean. I generally have the house a little cooler than I like in winter and then just light a fire when I'm in. I am prepared though.

Nice wood. Bet that took a while to chop into matching pieces.......

I have a 1080p optoma, which is just bright enough with the curtains open, just, and thats on a pull down screen. It replaced an ageing themescene projector which is now demoted to portable duties.

The screen pulls down over my tv so have best of both worlds, have had projectroes for years now but have decided that i wont get a new one when this breaks i will not replace it as it gets next to no use...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Well, the Swiss auction site doesn't work like ebay. If you bid at the last minute it adds two minutes to the completion time, and some f*'ker is uping his bid by 1 franc every two minutes. He's no where near my maximum but if this continues I won't find out until tomorrow if I've won.

What a tw@. Mad
