I've got the 4.4 TDV8. I would MUCH prefer the 5.0SC. When I bought, prices of the SC were still high and I had my sensible hat on. I'm in that mid zone of mileage (9k pa) where the extra petrol isn't a killer. 2011 Vogue SE

S/C ownership and running costs appear to fit into the following categories :-

1). You are filthy rich, you buy your vehicles new and fuel costs are a minor incidental or
2). Your mileage is fairly low where the additional cost of a bit more fuel is not an issue or
3). You have a fuel card provided by your boss and you don't pay for petrol
4). You are running on gas Thumbs Up

I've got both petrol and diesel, guess which ones do the miles and which one is kept for local short journeys

I fit in none of the 4 categories mentioned but I can speak of the difference between 3.6TDV8 which I bought new in 2007 and the 4.2SC which I had on loan when my TDV8 was in for a service at the time and my current car, the 5.0SC which I bought second-hand by the way (times are harder since Hollande is in power!).
I loved the 3.6TDV8 but felt it had turbo lag (especially at low speed, motorway was great), the 4.2SC was powerful but not that much more enjoyable than the TDV8 to justify the petrol, but as soon as I had driven the 5.0SC it was a revelation, so smooth, so powerful, no lag, I loved it.
OK it takes a bit of petrol, but you live only once, I think it is a keeper, I couldn't personally say that of any diesel powered car. A classic shape, a modern version of the original Range Rover which drives so much better, not too complicated mechanics (as opposed to the Diesel's DPF which will probably get you into trouble in the long-run).
I think the L405 looks OK but I prefer the classical look of the L322 so the money saved not buying a new car will more than pay for the petrol, whatever the mileage.

I fall in none of these groups either. I just wanted the best model with all the toys
I tried others and they didn't float my boat
I love v8's. And the blower is just great
