Depending on the ordering that sounds medieval.

Splinters, fireball, death.... Shocked

Used one daily for years as a student. From memory about 9 levels high. I remember using it for the first time, trying to time it right and basically moving too early and falling into it. Within days I would just stick my toes over the edge and catch it as it passed. Used to jump the down queue by going up and around the top.
I still remember getting my arm stuck. I had my elbow behind a grab rail as I waited to get on. As it moved up I grabbed the handle on the lift with my elbow still behind the grab rail. My arm was pushed back through the grab rail and I thought I had broken it.
Looking back, how the hell were these things ever legal ! They were a health and safety nightmare... Previously..

Yes, back in the 70's at the HQ of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority at Risley, Warrington. They had 4 paternosters installed on a 5 storey (plus basement) block. What was good was to grab someones briefcase or bag when they had got off and chuck it into the 'up' paternoster!! They had to wait for ages for the correct unit to come past, then jump in and go round again!

Dont suppose they are particularly 'wheelchair friendly'!!
