Front air springs - both gone at once

So last Thursday my wife is commuting home when the offside drops, and the ride turns into a pogo stick. By the time she makes it home, both sides are on their bump stops. I book it in to my local indie (Walkers Autotech in Loxwood, West Sussex; fantastic guys BTW), and although all the evidence reports both bags going at once is rare, on Friday I thought it prudent to order up a pair of shocks from island 4x4. I wanted the Delphi parts, but stock was limited so I went for the Dunlops with reassurances from the guys at island 4x4 that they were every bit as good.

The car was booked in this morning, the shocks rocked up by courier to the indie at 8.20, and I was driving home in a newly appreciated magic carpet by 1.30. The near side was completely split, and the offside had a small hole in it, so they can both go at the same time!!

Same as happened to mine - like Craig says, any weakness in the remaining good front strut is soon going to be exacerbated by the extra pressure of trying to keep the car level, so they both end up failing one straight after the other.

Good luck with the DUNLOPS, don´t do the bill in the wastebox, because you will need it after ca. 7 month, had around 10 struts from DUNLOP with defect in the upper region, now only replace with DELPHI. TDV8 4.4 from 2012, 278.000km like new + Lancia Flavia Coupe 1964 + RRS L494 3.0 SDV6 + C220CDI Convertible 2021

Well, needs must... Get it sorted next day on Dunlops or stuck at home days over half term with no car and young children who were looking forward to days out...

Both of mine went at the same time. I replaced with dunlops and since then, ive had a knocking from the front that I cannot pin down... I think it could be the strut, although it drives and rides at the correct height etc. I emailed island 4x4 some months ago about defective dunlop struts after reading some of meerbusch's posts. I got no reply. I'm not going to shell out £500 quid on another set of struts when the dunlops seem to be ok other than a bit of a knock, which i dont really hear any more. It is most noticable when in off road height, driving off road, when they can seem to make a fair old bang if going over any bumps.... MY2010 TDV8 Vogue Ipanema Sand

Had a look at your thread onyx. some decent photos, Maybe next year in the summer, i might remove the struts again for a closer inspection. for now, I can live with it, especially when the tracking and tyre wear seems even enough. cheers. MY2010 TDV8 Vogue Ipanema Sand

Dear gentlemen, the knocking comes definitly from the top of the DUNLOPS, it will become louder and louder each month, the (german: oberes Kugellager ist ausgeschlagen) problem is typical for all DUNLOPS. Only because I am good client of island4x4 they changed them with little money more to DELPHI, now all problems at all my and the client RRs L322 are away. You have 12 month warranty, make a YouTube film, and put it in the WWW with bad commentar for DUNLOP GB!!!

Phoned Island 4 x 4 up about my knocking dunlop air struts, and they are happy to send them off to dunlop for them to be tested as a warrenty claim, but it will take 4 -6 weeks. So realistically Ill have to buy another set of struts in order to try and claim on the warrenty. plus ill have to sort a courier to send the noisy struts back to island 4 x 4. Ballache isnt the word... I cannot justify another 600 quid to attempt a warrenty claim. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Oh I wish I spent a bit more and plumbed for the Delphi's.

Steer clear of the dunlop air struts. waste of money in my opinion. MY2010 TDV8 Vogue Ipanema Sand

Normalywise you have 12 month warranty? They have to change them, you can say them, that the client from Germany had got new DELPHI with paying the difference price on top, the company DUNLOP itself is the badest damish bloody??, they talk to me at telephone, that it would be better for me to drive german cars, and my english is to bad to discuss with me, BYE, and the telefon was dead!!!!!!!!! Also the netherland DUNLOP was very unkind, never heard about this problem, I am the first...., can only lough about this..., make a Video for YouTube, believe me, that helps!!!! TDV8 4.4 from 2012, 278.000km like new + Lancia Flavia Coupe 1964 + RRS L494 3.0 SDV6 + C220CDI Convertible 2021
