Cleaning maf sensors will improve general running and should be part of general maintenance anyway. If yours is running rough I would do it.

Our cars are notoriously thirsty round town - they have to be due to the laws of physics. Think about it stop / start of a lump of iron two and a half tonne in weight!
Get them on a long run and notice the difference - my 28 was on an effortless motorway trip of about 400 miles and I wasn't hanging about

I know this topic is TDV8, but (for comparison) my tuned 4.2 S/C figures have been 18-19mpg around town / commute and 19mpg on a recent 300mile weekend jaunt to Devon and not hanging around one bit. 22mpg is easily possible with restraint and a constant speed.

And there's the usual petrol / diesel price difference to factor in.

I'm guessing that the 5.0 with a wee bit more torque and power would be better still.

Then again, how does the 4.4 TDV8 compare? Si. <This is my name.

My previous Vogue was a 4.4 and it did about 14 round town and I never got more than 20 on any run. I have an XKR 4.2 which is only about 1600Kg as its all aluminium and that only does about 18 round town and about 22 on a run so its all relative. What I will say is that residual value on the petrols is far worse than diesel so put your extra savings towards the depreciation not fuel if that makes sense......

Not really a fair comparison Jason, but my nine year old 4.4 petrol does late teens around town, but steady 70 up and down motorway networks produces 24 to 26 depending on weather conditions. My personal opinion would be to zero computer at J21, go north or south for a fifty mile round trip and then see what FF is doing. I would imagine you should be high twenties if I can get circa 25 from my gas guzzler?

I constantly read this on here and another BMW M and a Landrover forum I frequent
Where only on this earth for a short time
We by choice run cars that are in reality crap on juice. Either through BHP, weight, or shaped like a brick
Mine are all 3
If you want to talk about mpg you should have bought a Prius or a small hatch
You've bought a great luxury car whether diesel or petrol
Enjoy it for what it .... Luxury style , class and road presence
Rejoice in the fact that you are contributing to global warming ( think it's an urban myth myself but I can live in hope )
You enjoying a car that many people dream of

Get a life
I drove 400 mile in mine on Saturday just because I love driving it

I'd bet there's a few on here who wouldn't think twice about paying for beer at £4 a pint ...£32 a gallon
I do but when the day comes I've got to make
A choice it will be petrol

Rant over

Your a long time dead and in reality it's not far off Growing old is compulsory Growing up is optional
