Is there any way to manually lower the air suspension.

For nearly 3 years now I have had a “SUSPENSION FAILURE” message and the RR has been locked at On-Road Mode height and as it has never been safe to take this RR off road, I have not bothered to fix the problem as it is just one of many, many periodical failures, that usually fixed themselves.

A little over a month ago, the front suspension dropped, as someone put it here, it dropped on to it’s “bum”

I had stuffed my ankle and couldn’t work on the RR till this weekend.

There did not seem to be any obvious air leaks so I decided to check the system, starting at the compressor.

After removing the cover of the compressor, I decided I would try to connect multi meter leads to the wiring in on the compressor relays. I wasn’t going to monitor the main lead as the compressor was working but then I decided I could monitor all the wires at the one point, at the main lead’s connector.

I did no more than touch the connector and the plug literally fell out of the socket and even when I pushed the plug home and heard the lock click, it still fell out in my hand.

This just confirms my claims this heap of crap has had a problem since the day it was made and the dealer obviously never checked anything, even though I had repeatedly made them aware of the problems I was having.

In the near on 6 years that I have had this RR I have had numerous suspension and Terrain Response failures and had repeatedly reported the problems at just about every time the RR went in for a service.

This fault plug is probably why the Terrain Response has never worked properly from the day I drove this heap out of the showroom.

Now to the new problem.

To keep the plug and socket together, I secured a cable tie around the connector but once I started the motor, the air suspension raised to fully extended height and I mean it has raised the RR the full 6” and I can’t get it to lower.

It keeps telling me to make sure the RR is clear of any objects and then to reset the height.

ANY IDEAS.

I tried a full reset but the full reset worked in reverse.

I’m back to having SUSPENSION FAILURE messages and now the Terrain Response has also failed. Nothing new there.

It just won't lower.

So again, is there any way to manually lower the air suspension? 2007 TDV8 Lux

Thanks Stan and I’ve set them an E-mail for info on where to buy one over here.

Hi C-T-C and as far as getting the codes go, the problem was never fixed under warranty ( not that I had a warranty ) so I just didn’t both but hopefully I might be able to do what the Land Rover dealer never achieved! 2007 TDV8 Lux

Good luck with it fella Thumbs Up

Hi again C-T-C and do I need to take it to a dealer to have the codes cleared or can I take it to any generic service centre? 2007 TDV8 Lux

For sure, remove the silencer.

What next?

Well adigorn, while I suspected you might be pulling my leg, mate, thanks very much, it worked a treat.

I reinstalled the silencer and the suspension failed again.

Removed the silencer again and let the RR go through a shutdown and as soon as I started, it worked perfectly.

Can I replace the silence with a new one or do I have to leave it out?

Thanks for all the help folks and again, adigorn, great help and greatly appreciated. 2007 TDV8 Lux

Your silencer is blocked simple... There is a revised part from JLR with a hole drilled through it to stop it blocking up... Thumbs Up

We fit them as part of a service if they have never been fitted Thumbs Up Just check yours is not full of a white powder (talcum powder like material) as that can be a sign of your compressor breaking down internally... Thumbs Up

Order a revised exhaust... For now (temporary fix) sit the exhaust on its thread end and you then need to drill a 2mm(ish) hole through the existing exhaust from east to west through the internal hole running north to south as you look at it... Hopefully that makes sense Confused

Long term, the blocked exhaust may have caused excessive wear internally in the compressor Crying or Very sad But you may have been lucky and caught it in time Mr. Green

As above if you can live with the sound of drilled silencer (at the end its deep under cover and spear wheel)
you can leave it like that till new one arrives (or longer Wink ) Thumbs Up
