2005 Range Rover HSE Td6 Java Black
new and need advice 4 chipping

hello.

i got mine bout 2 weeks ago and its a tdv6 hse

just wondering where i could go for chipping and if any hints and tips that i need

I'm no expert by any means, but have been reading these forums for some time now.

JE Engineering in Coventry seems to have a good reputation. They have a website too, which a quick Google would reveal. Researching my first Range Rover purchase

TDV6 is NOT a RR engine. The TDV6 is only available for the Disco with a bodyshell slightly resembling that of a RR. Mr. Green

Whether it's a TD6, TDV6 (in which case it's not a FFRR) or a TDV8, Bell Auto Services have a nice offering. The main advantage for me is their programming box which allows the map to be removed when the car goes to the dealer Wink Saves on arguments over warranty items Very Happy

I think Overfinch used to have kits for the td6.

You can give'em a ring and check.

In my opinion you should go to a specialist, and that means JE or Overfinch, being Overfinch the more ''OEM'' of both of them. JE is also specialized but I think it's more a no-consequence-tuning company. It's like, this engine can pump 1000BHP...so...do it, if everything else doesn't cope and breaks....who cares...wereas Overfinch products seem more ''tested'' and factory like.

You can also go to every other who can tune it of the above mentioned, but I would fear it mainly because of driveability. BHP isn't everything...

VMPP on what foundation do you base this view??? because you are totally wrong. JE have long standing links with Land Rover - even working with them to develop engines - which you would see if you had bothered to read their web site. JE are probably one of the most well respected companies out there.

As far as I am aware Overfinch bought in other people tuning packages, whereas JE developed their own. Anybody who has taken the trouble to visit them in Coventry will know exactly the type of outfit they are - rather than you making wide sweeping uneducated statements - which can cause untold damage and end up in legal battles...

I have no involvement with JE, just a very satisfied customer as are other forum members.

Sorry but you are absolutely and completely incorrect about JE Engineering. I'm not sure where you get that impression from but clearly not from reading about them or speaking to them in person.

JE are MORE OEM than Overfinch ever will be. Overfinch are known for big bore engine conversions and fancy bodykits and interior changes.

JE help Land Rover develop their engines and have been involved with Range Rover for over 27 years. They develop their tuning to suit the capabilities of the engine within it's parameters and also within the capability of a 4x4 vehicles and its working directives, eg. at angles, under load, high torque etc. JE have been instrumental in many developments of the Range Rover powertrain over the years and definitely do not have a philosophy of just boosting the power regardless of consequences.

When I went to see them they assured me that NONE of their engine tunings has resulted in breakages or claims, because they very carefully develop and fully test them before they go to market. This is in complete contrast to the likes of power box makers whose only aim is to increase fuel delivery and boost the power output with NO consideration for the rest of the car's powertrain components. JE on the other hand will also remap the gearbox ECU to adapt the way it shifts in alignment with the car's increase in power and torque.

Please, next time you decide to give advice to a new member, ensure that it is factually correct beforehand. Discovery 4 HSE

I stand corrected....

As i'm not from brittain all I can rely on is catalogues and websites. Around the time when L322 came out (circa the 580s test on top gear) I visited the overfinch website (not this new pimped one), and they had everything very well documented and divided, and even a catalogue that I downloaded, which looked very satisfactory and professional. When I discovered JE website (this was like 2 or 3 years ago), it looked more barn tuning than the Overfinch's site.

At the time I was looking into making a trip there to tune my tdv8 when the warranty would run out. I always felt that 272hp from a 3.6, nowadays, with all the technologies that LR talked about (variable turbos, variable valves, etc...) seemed a bit low.

Then I bought an warranty extension which postponed the trip...
Then Overfinch went into bling mode....
Then JE posted the review with the quote ''how vital (and hard-worked) the four-wheel drive system is,''
Then I got a bit scared of transmition problems with the mentioned remaps ....
Then the finance crisis struck...
Then there's the new 4.4 coming out...
Then, then then....

So all as been postponed, but as I said, I stand correced and if the opportunity arises I still plan to go to ''chez vous'' and maybe spend a few days visiting both OF and JE, and, check which one is most confidence inspiring. Based on your experiences and opinions JE has been upped a bit....

They have always been well respected - otherwise why did they develop the 3.9 and 4.2 engine for LR nearly 30 years ago - LR even bought the 4.2 from them which ended up in the RR Classic LSE
