United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Buckingham Blue

Here is a reply I got from Dave Ashcroft at Ashcroft transmissions ;

"Hi,

sorry we are not able to supply these boxes,

try :

http://www.signaturetransmissions.co.uk/

Dave"

and a reply from Signature Transmissions ;

"Hi Mark,

We do all the modifications to the valve body and the rest of the transmission, our units built are £1625.00 + vat, from OE they are still over £4k, we do remanufacture the torque converters as well, with regards to the cooler it is good practice to change this as any debris can cause problems.

We don’t have a unit built at the moment we can normally supply within a week or so.

Any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me,

Kind Regards,

Niall."

A reply from automaticgearbox.co.uk ;

"Hi Mark,

I received your enquiry from Matt at Sussex Autoparts. We specialise in the GM5L40E range of transmissions they are upgraded with modified
parts in the valve body and oil pump from Sonix.

Once these units are rebuilt they are then tested on our dyno machine for 25 minutes this ensures the vehicle shifts correctly and has no leaks or noises.

Our warranty is 12 months, 12,00 miles which ever is the sooner and is delivered fully packaged together with fitting instructions and kooler flush, the costs for this is £1495 inc torque converter, there will be a surcharge of £500 which is reimbursed once we have the old unit back and delivery and collection is £80 all plus vat. A fitting service is available if requested.

Regards

Paul."

As you say, mj, it needs to be done properly. Have you thought of using Mackies in Glasgow - a bit closer for you and they know exactly what to do.

The garage had said they have used Midland for the last 3 years with good results so left it to them. They have ordered the box now anyway.
Mackies looks like a good company so will mention to him when I pick it up in a week or two. I think I know where they are as well, I used to be a van driver many years ago and was in and out of Glasgow every day. I think they are in a row of arches under one of the bridges over the Clyde. But I may be wrong, killed to many brains cells with the old fire water. Confused
I have emailed Midland and told them my RR is getting a new box fitted and the garage doing it is ordering it from them and asked if they fit the sonax block as standard. So just waiting on there reply.

One of our Forum members here in Oz has re-built a 5L40E Hybrid using a imported 5L50E auto from the US ! So far so good; we are all watching intently as it seems these are the only real alternative.

i recall from my days of audi ownership that gearbox services are scheduled for something like every 3 years or 50k miles.....

mentionned possibility of gearbox service to my stealer when it is being done next week (3 years old now) and just got a blank look.....not on the schedule from LR sir.....

On my 2010 TDV8 all of the LR maintenance schedules state "Replace automatic transmission fluid and filter every 10 years or 150,000 miles".

Is it the opinion of this forum that that is too long for tranny oil and filter changes?

I would get the gearbox serviced every 30,000 miles, costs me around £200 to have it done.

Mustard,

I note your car is a 2005 TD6 which I believe has a 5-speed GM transmission.

My 2010 TDV8 has a 6-speed ZF 6HP 28 tranny.

Does the maintenance philosophy differ between those boxes - as regards frequency of oil and filter changes?

Does anyone else with a ZF 6HP 28 box reduce the oil / filter change periods below the manufacturer's recommended 150K / 10 year cycle?

I was wondering the same thing. My dealer and my indie mechanic have both said not to touch it in my 2008 (nonSC) V8 petrol. The car has 110K miles.

Mine is supposed to be good for life or 100, 000 miles Laughing

Thats what Land Rover say........... Do I trust what they say ? Nope Rolling with laughter

Start a new thread requesting an answer from Craig (Cam Tech Craig), Ill be surprised if he agrees with 150K or 10 years

Its back with recon gearbox

Picked my car up today I am now over £3200 poorer but the car is driving like new. I hadn't realised how bad it was running. One of the injectors was replaced and the engine now sounds so quiet and drives really smoothly.
The gearbox feels really smooth on the changes and the gear stick slots up and down crisply. One thing that has now gone is the uneven and lumpy idle when in drive and stopped on foot brake. It now sits quiet and still.
The lumpy idle when on the foot brake had been a gradual thing that appeared over about six months so if yours has started doing this get it check or at least do an oil and filter change on your auto box.
I did ask the garage what was done with the auto box and he did the oil cooler and pipes and also a new torque convertor, he couldn't tell me if it had the sonax case and Midland Transmissions haven't answered my email request for info so I don't know.
I also got him to read some of the error codes from the faulty sound system so I am going to post these in a seperate post. Traded in my Audi TT 225 for my Range Rover TD6 Autobiography in Java Black. Range Rover now sold.
