2010 MY 5.0 S/C AB Belt Screaching - Help Please

Hi all

The last 2 mornings have been very frost and my 2009 59 5.0 S/C AB has been frozen (doors a little stuck etc) and on start up I'm getting a screech which I assume is the auxiliary belt? It goes away after a few gentle revs but without its there for a but longer.

Never had it until now, is a new belt needed or is there something I can do?

Car has 52k miles.

Thanks

Carl

You could try spraying water onto the belt to see if the noise goes away, the effects only last a few seconds but it is a good way to pinpoint the source of the noise.

DO NOT SPRAY WD40 ONTO THE BELT as it will cause damage at a later date

Thanks for the suggestion. It was fine this morning, there wasn't any icy weather so its a cold start issue?

It's most probably the load on the alternator causing the drive belt to slip. The tension is adjustable, so assuming your belt is in good condition, that's where you should focus attention. Should've been old enough to know better...doh!

i have this squeak when starting especially after its been wet and cold...it disappears after a few minutes..i brought some hycote belt slip from ecp and kinda sprayed the belt with it but i dont think i got all the belt because of the very limited access to it but the spray reduced the squeaking..

Gummi Pfledge

Have you tried Einzett Gummi Pfledge on your door seals? It stops them sticking to the door in cold weather, avoiding the chance of tearing the seals. Very easy to apply to the seals.
