Can you modify a 2002 bumper bar to fit 2010 front end?

I know the recommendation is to get a new reinforcement armature/bar, but the prices have now jumped to over £200. I have an angle grinder so can I mod it?

I believe that you can modify the 2002 bar to fit the 2006 front end (cutting out space around the fog light holes with an angle grinder), and that if you have a 2006 front end you can modify the bar to fit the 2010 bumper.

So in theory it should be possible just to modify the 2002 bumper bar to fit the 2010, but is there a glaring problem in doing it? Tom

In theory yes it should be fine.

As the 2010 front bumper fits fine to the 2006 bumper bar.

Alternatively find a s/h 2006 front bar and fit that.

Thanks Stan & Stryke, I have read PretLoves wiki, but was wondering if there is anything additional that needed to be done to go the whole hog to the 2010 conversion.

I will keep an eye out for a 2006 armature, but am happy to angle grind the holes if it is really as simple as that. Tom

Gents,

Did anyone confirm 100% that a pre-2006 crash bar can be used for a 2010 front end conversion? I am attempting the conversion in the next few weeks (waiting for parts to arrive). I have a 2004 RR - and I am placing an aftermarket bumper cover with no fog lights, so I am wondering what exactly needs to be modified if anything to fit the 2010+ bumper cover on.

I don't need to cut out the fog light recess so is it a matter of some minor trimming on the edges?

Any feedback will be great. Apologies if this has already been documented but the wiki appears to be modifing the bumper for a 2006 conversion.

Any help will be great.

Regards,
Daryl

not sure why everyone keeps going on about the crash bar. The fog lights are no where near the crash bar on the 2010 onwards bumper. As long as the 4 bolt holes line up on top it will fit without any issue. No modifications are required.

i think its the 2002-2005 to facelift 2006-2009 conversions that the crash bar needs replacing or fettling.. ... - .- -.

Wait so to get this out in a clear and blunt statement:

When doing a 2010+ facelift conversion on a 2002-2005 model, you do not need to modify the crash bar to better house the fog lights.
