EBC pads are brilliant, never been able to knock them. the Green stuff pads very popular amongst Defender owners.

Good tip by Martin to consider Advanced Factors, thanks.

Their website is quoting £93.97, 1-2 day courier delivery, 2 year warranty, for the set of front and rear genuine Brembo brake pads:
http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/index.asp...productid=

Just need to work out if the rear calipers on our SC are TRW CALIPERS (for Brembo brake pad LR019627).

Thumbs Up

re your disc question Ryan, i've always been told its best to replace the discs when fitting new pads unless the discs are in very good condition..

i quite fancy the drilled and grooved type..

As per the discussion i had with Stan ^... We have tried aftermarket 'non-genuine' pads in "Brembo" equipt FF's and every time they were rubbish!

Define "Non Genuine"

I have a set of EBC RedStuff Pads in my D3 (with Brembo's) and cannot fault them at all...

I admit, there are some shocking pads out there, but IMHO, you get what you pay for.
Buy cheap, buy twice Thumbs Up

We've tried Mintex, 2 or 3 different types from ECP and they have always been rubbish... Confused

Discs - OE, Drilled, Dimpled or Grooved

Quote Stan "... i quite fancy the drilled and grooved type.."

@ Stan,

Having done some searching, most specialist Range Rover parts suppliers don’t appear to routinely sell other than standard spec discs for the SC, or any other L322 for that matter; and I’m thinking maybe the reason for that is that original design, quality, premium brand products are good enough. I’ve read that drilled discs can be noisy too and are not for those doing higher miles.

Advanced Factors Thumbs Up

From what I’ve found so far, Advanced Factors do the best Brembo front disc and pad package deal with a 2 year product warranty, offering front discs, front pads, the warning wire, a tube of copper grease, thread lock and 2 x disc retaining screws for £208.94 delivered:
http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/003oe-bre...2056-p.asp

Unless anyone can persuade me otherwise, I would stick with original spec discs on a car like this.

Idea
For those interested, here is summary of what grilled/ dimpled grooved discs actually do:

Drilled & Grooved (or Dimpled & Grooved) – The benefits of drilled and grooved brake discs is that they can aid braking by allowing heat to escape as well as helping to remove gas and water. This combination of drilled and grooved may help to improve braking performance. Holes are drilled completely through the discs and shallow channels are machined into the disc or alternately shallow dimples are machined into the disc.

Drilled – The benefits of drilled brake discs over standard plain discs, is that drilled discs can aid Improved Cooling Under Braking. The holes are drilled completely through the discs allowing heat to escape.
Drilled brake discs are not recommended for racing or other hard use.

Grooved – The benefits of grooved brake discs over standard plain discs, is that drilled discs can aid in removing dust and gas. Grooved brake discs have shallow channels machined into the disc which can remove gas, water, and de-glaze brake pads.

Thumbs Up

I run drilled & grooved Mintex disks with OE pads and they are great... Downside is they warp easily so you have to be carefull putting heat cycles through them to start with, then it's a case of breaking heavily to clear any warping (I think they are softer then standard disks)

Main reason for changing was aesthetics... With Brembos these disks just look better Thumbs Up

Okay... if I order the genuine front Brembo Disc and pad set (Brembo calipers on the fronts anyway) from Adv Factors and fit them (properly) myself, will I be invalidating any part of my L.R warranty?

Clear or not

Checked LR warranty handbook

"What your Approved Warranty Does Not Cover... Components that may be subject to wear include, but are not limited to, brake discs, drums and frictional materials... "

" Servicing Requirements:
It is a condition of this Warranty that your vehicle is serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines. Throughout the warranty period a franchised Land Rover dealer or a VAT registered garage should carry out all servicing and repair work..."

The point of note for me above was the "... and repair work..." part.

So, for example, if the discs and pads were worn through normal wear and were in need of replace, they would not be covered under warranty anyway? Therefore, if OE spec discs & pads - e.g Brembo - were properly "DIY fitted" or fitted as a favour by a qualified "man"... what's to invalidate?

Nothing👍

I had to replace a set of rear pads on my car for the mot last year as one of the calipers was sticking and had worn one pad to under 1mm. couldnt get it in to have the caliper done under warranty straight away.

Swapped pads myself, passed mot, dropped it at the dealer a week later for a new caliper under warranty, never questioned the new pads. Showed them the old worn ones and explaned what i had done. Caliper swapped no bother under warranty. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Excellent Service from Steve @ Advanced Factors

How's that for a quick and reliable service? Ordered the front Brembo brake kit from Advanced Factors yesterday and within 24 hours, a courier has just handed them to me, at the other end of the country!

Thanks Martin for the interjection and suggestion to look at A.F and thanks to Steve at A.F for a top service Thumbs Up
