Deployable side steps not deploying.

I've recently had a problem with a failing alternator which has resulted in my deloyable steps failing.

I think the problem maybe caused by the battery going completely flat. On the last occasion I drove the vehicle prior to the alternator being changed, the steps were stuck in the out position but when I drove above approximately 10mph, they retracted. Now they have stayed retracted.

Does anyone know of any way to reset the steps at all or is it a trip to the dealers?

Just a guess but press and hold the retract button? Works for the sunroof...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

It sounds like your steps are turned off. Here are the operation instructions, try the very last bit.

Deployable side step operation

To force the steps to stay out regardless of the position of the doors, what LR call 'roof access and jacking mode' get in the vehicle and close the doors, quickly insert the key in the dash and turn to position two, then hold the switch for about five seconds until the light in the switch illuminates continuously then remove the key. The steps will now stay out regardless of the position of the doors unless you drive away or lock the vehicle at which point they will return to their normal function.

If the steps are working and you want to disable them: insert the key in the dash in position 1 and hold the switch whilst turning the key to position 2, the light in the switch will flash twice to confirm the system is now off. To turn the system on repeat the procedure but the light will now flash three times to confirm the system is now on.

Hope this help, regards. Jon MY2007 S/C - Stornoway / Jet

This is so embarrassing. Thanks for the tips. I should have tried the obvious first!

Will let you know how I get on in the morning.

Out of interest, how does the above procedure work on a post 09 car without a key?

Good question, I don't really know as I have never played with one. I would presume that like with other manufactures there is a way of selecting the aux ( position 1 ) and ignition (position 2) using the stop start button, maybe without putting your foot on the brake pedal and holding the button for a number of seconds, this is the procedure in our Volvo. MY2007 S/C - Stornoway / Jet

Looks like my steps were turned off and once I re activated them according to Jon's instructions, they are working again!

Cheers Jon and to everyone else with your helpful tips.
