I've heard a noise from the front of the TD6 so decided to investigate by using a mechanics stethoscope to pinpoint the source. I suspected one of the idler pulleys, more so the one at the bottom of the engine as it is most prone to muck and crap being sprayed up during the winter months, but although there was a slight noise it wasn't the cause of the problem. Further investigation has led me to believe it is the tensioning pulley that is noisy and I have ordered a new part which will be with me tomorrow.

So whilst waiting on the new pulley I decided to strip the old one. The bearing like most just presses out and although the number on the old bearing doesn't match up with anything on the internet I'm sure I could have sourced a new matching bearing for a lot less than a new pulley assembly.

I removed the moulded seals and cleaned out the grease (not that there was much in there) to reveal a bit of a mess. It looks like I have caught this in time and if left for much longer could have caused a breakdown.

If something can't be fixed with a hammer....... You have yourself an electrical fault!

New tensioner pulley and two new idler pulleys now changed and all is well with the FFRR once again for a short period of time

Think you have re-built that FFRR from scratch …..
