As always Pete a pleasure to read and very informative!
Also, if your selling your rear flaps, I'd like first dibs!

They were pattern ones and very hard plastic not rubber like the originals....

got back from the weekend in Kent to find they had started to crack already... slung them in the bin...

So don't bother with pattern ones...

Sorry.. Pete

Just been changing the piston ring on the air suspension compressor as it was slow to raise, well the reason for that was evident when I pulled it out of it's rats nest of an abortion the LPG fitter did....

I knew it didn't look too neat but what a bunch of plonkers, that silver stuff down there is a plastic bag that was wrapped around the pump before they stuffed the loft insulation around it.... that's all well and good but the pump has the air inlet on it's end (the gold bit just below the thick black pipe) and it was covered with plastic........ no wonder it took ages to rise!!!!! It also gets pretty hot when it's been on so it's not a good idea to wrap it up, it need some air round it...

I've thrown away all that insulation and isolated the pump with pieces of a garden kneeler, nice thick rubber, it's just a temporary job until I get some time to relocate it to a more suitable position...

At least it sucks now and is great with it's new piston ring... it's also no noisier than before...

Going to do a few gentle lanes tomorrow so it'll be it's first off road foray..... Pete

Both times I've had to change front air struts were after having it all the way up for any length of time. Worth keeping a look out.

Cheers Paul I'll keep an eye on them, they have been changed at some time, they don't look 12 years old so hopefully be OK for a while...

It went for it's first outing on Green Lanes on Sunday, was a bit muddy but it did very well, went with a mate who's got a Fourtrack with mud tyres and a suspension lift and the poor guy had to get towed out by me after getting stuck following....

Came back rather dirty so spent a couple of hours cleaning it off, I know it's going to be an off roader but I can't stand having a dirty car (a bit OCD) so it gets done properly, everywhere including underneath and door shuts etc...

One thing it has got now is bush rash, these marks are very light scratches and look far worse than they are, I usually polish them off every few months but it's no good doing every time as you'd polish all the paint off in a few months...

Did a bit more on bringing the inside up to scratch.... can't imagine how this damage got done to the ignition surround but it's a huge piece missing...

Carefully filled it with some plastic putty that you can mold and polish to to a good finish, unfortunately it wasn't quite black so had to do a bit of touching in...

I then remembered some alloy dial surrounds I bought for a Volvo some time ago but never fitted, they were a perfect size for the job so fitted them around it and the lighter...

not bad for a free fix if I say it myself.....

Whilst I had it out I wrapped the ashtray and trim above it, also removed the astray inner and flock lined the hole and now it just fits my Iphone nicely....

Then onto the center console cup holder, don't know if this is a common problem but mine came flying out every time you shut the console lid, took it apart to find a small spring had broken and the plastic had worn on the devise that make it a push in, push out holder.... cheap simple, easy fix was to remove the main spring and the aforementioned worn piece of plastic, it now stays where it should but you do have to pull it out manually, it then locks in position fine and is easy to fold away....

The other trim issue was this

Lost it's retaining strip and the bottom bit had come off, been glued and taped by a previous owner...

I was looking on ebay last night and found just the trim I wanted, new, old stock and low and behold it was at my local dealers, so popped in this morning and paid them 30 for it (RRP 58 + VAT)

Cleaned off all the tape residue and glue

And fitted the new one... all sorted now

Still got the silly grin on my face when I drive it, it's gorgeous.....

You are a complete car nut. I highly respect this kind of mental illness.
Great write up, Thumbs Up you motivated me to have a closer look to my 2002. Although it's for sale I might be able to get some more satisfaction out of it. Thanks!

How serious are looking at taking the laning as ther are some bits you really need to get for the FF that are up for grabs but would need a drive for you to pick them up Wink FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

FYI you may find when starting if you hold the LPG changover button down, the LPG system will cut in and take over, helping reduce running costs even more Wink FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Most LPG systems will do this, but I was advised that it is a good idea to let them start on Petrol normally, as this lubricates the valves each time you start up. Was also advised to let the FF run on petrol for an extended time maybe once a month or so for the same reason (this also exercises the petrol injectors etc.) Smile 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

I found it ok as long as the odd run on petrol was done so what I did was keep about an 1/8th of a petrol tank unless I was going on a long run and then once a month or two run it right down so the petrol didn't go stale as I was running v power back then Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
