Im after a chainsaw I have a little job like relaying our drive hedge so will get a bit of use and will log up timber as well, the bar doesn't need to be huge, 14"- 18" ? its just I don't know the cr p chainsaws out there.

I know stihl are the best and husqvana are close but price are way out for the use it will get, just need something that's reliable and do the job well without the chain falling off. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

There are a few huaqvsna's and still ones on there for 200 quid. Which i don't think is a bad price.
I would buy the best as you will be buying one if a cheap one fails.

I have a husqvarna 435 with a 15 in bar which I use for firewood have used it for two years and never failed me. My father loves his mcullock saws and has just bought a new 18 in one as they are now owned by husqvarna. I think he got his mail order from world of power.

Im not strimming or hedge trimming Stan, Im laying it, like this...

get the best you can. I had 'partner 365' for years super strong little thing.
When it gave up the ghost it was all down to a plastic sprocket that i could not source anywhere.
Now have a stihl which again is super....

I got a cheap 20" one off eBay from a local seller for £90.

I got 3 chains with it and it does what it says on the tin. Second pull everytime it starts with the choke out and then push the choke in an away you go plenty of grunt for what I need it for. I had mac and it's still on the garage bit going up for spares or repairs as the bore has too much wear on it now so not worth repair.

Downside is that it uses a 25:1 ratio and not 50:1 like the mac did but I can live with some extra two stroke usage and after the recent weather I filled the boot up a good few times helping clear local wind felling.

Downside to it was I had to adjust the kick back lock on it as it was super sensitive but is perfect now.

Adjustment of the carb is easy and it's not that heavy and for the price if it lasts a year or two as it is I can live with it as I'll get at least £30+ for it as spares repairs on eBay worst case scenario  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago and it's brilliant.... athough it was only £70 then...

Not sure of the Engine size for the McCullock but the one I got is 58cc and is happy to run for hours.. Regards

Thanks guys, we started laying the drive hedge yesterday....hard work without a chainsaw and saying brrrrrrrrr while using the bowsaw doesn't help!  If it dont work.......burn it!

For what you're planning, I wouldn't go above 18" bar.

I have a STIHL and my dad runs Husqvarnas, they're as good as each other.

Just make sure you have the right type of chain on it for the work you're doing.

Always buy the best you can afford, Ive seen people buy cheaper stuff from B&Q etc and had to replace it. Buy once, buy good. Discovery 4 HSE

Would have to say that over here both Stihl & McCulloch aren't any where near as good as they were 20 years ago. Had both but wouldn't buy one now. Probably go for a Husky now.

for a small saw i would go Sthil for over 65cc i would go Husky.

for your use the Mac will do the job but its not the best balanced thing out there. i would rather buy a small sthil with 14" bar. 35cc or similar.
