i am after the following;

Over 10/15 years

Budget - £10,000
Usage - Daily but lowish miles (20,000). so consumption is an issue

Reliability is key and 4 seats?

Any pointers ?

I have had my Disco 1 for 14 years and only just put it on a sorn as the FF is used more now. The Mrs has had the 110 for 21 years, both still run well, both reliable too.....but both V8's....I don't care about mpg

BMW 7 Series. The diesels can have pretty good mileage and still keep some luxury and comfort. Even the petrolmodelsxsrn't too bad.

If I hadn't got the FFRR then I was looking at the V12 760iL or a newer 740dL but there are plenty of face lifted 05-09 E65/E66 models from the £5k mark up £10 would get you a nice spec and lower miles. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Hi Rej, 7 series was on my list, think it a great car. Had an S6 for a few years but always jump in the RR

E61 5 series, with the 2.0 diesel, its fairly quick pretty reliable and quite frugal. As well as comfy.

Or for 4x4 if not a rangie, a landcruiser, could just get into the newer shape but the older colorado will go on forever, fairly cheap to service and run not too bad at drinking diesel and will go anywhere. Ours died at 12 years old and 279,000 ish, unfortunately the bottom hose burst, taking the head with it! Otherwise i bet i would have made 300k + easily.

Alternatively if you arent bothered about brand, our skoda has been just about the most reliable car i have ever owned. Decent octavias are cheap. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I too had a landcrusier, a 4.5 vx 80 series 6 potter petrol, was a brilliant motor ( not a patch on the FF though ) we also have a 90 V8 and a noddy car, all depends on what cost mpg is to you, don't forget LPG is a cheaper too and to be fare, if set up correctly its fine. unless like me you used the D1 on a 12 car rally and use both tanks of lpg in one night !

E60 535d might be in that price range.  Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

The 535 is great but not as frugal as you would think. Mine never bettered 28mpg, which could be put down to towing and my heavy foot! If you dont need the speed the 520 is a much cheaper and more plentiful alternative.

Was a fairly reliable bus too but the tailgate rusted, and the gearbox was slow to engage reverse and drive when first starting, which was probably a lnkage problem.

Oh and fast as even with a caravan on the back! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Refinement is second to none and they are only going up in value at the moment.
The 2.1 is the most frugal and reliable but a good 2.5td is almost as economical but in the real world is less due to having so much more grunt.

They can both run on veg oil so save a fortune in fuel.

Failing that a xantia HDi110 exclusive. They are pretty cheap and strong and cheap. Get 50mpg without trying hard and have good poke. Worth buttons at the moment and don't depreciate for basically a bit more than scrap value

The ride on the above two is easy to stay on top of and keep very smooth.

Other options are skoda's or volvos maybe.

To be honest if it were me I'd just buy something for around £400-500 with full MOT and diesel and then tax it and run it for a year. If anything pops stick it straight in eBay and move onto the next one bangernomics at it's best. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I'm not quite in bangernomics territory but I bought a 55 plate Skoda Superb (Oxymoron edition) 1.9 tdi. Paid 2 grand for it. Currently on 139k miles and adding 1200 miles a week to it. Comfy, quiet and basically a long wheelbase VW Passat. No wonder the cabbies all love them, dirt cheap to run. 50mpg is easy to achieve.

I genuinely expected to hate it but the facts are it's comfortable and refined and whilst I don't have a lot of love for it, as a work hack it's great. Plus I don't care if it gets dented/bashed on the car park.

You could do a lot worse.
