New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green
My new FFRR AGAIN :)

As you may have noticed, the Bournville didn't work out. Turbo issues made me very wary of that car so I decided to keep looking and let Gary do the hard work for me Smile

So this time round I have found my almost perfect spec car. Light (sand) interior, no tints, Autobiography and most important of all a 5.0 SC engine in the engine bay.

Gary went to place and gave it a good inspection and drive and reckons it is in near perfect condition (the Bournville had a few issues despite its fewer miles and that was excluding the turbo problem). So I pulled the trigger, part with a bit more than the original budget but getting a much better deal for it.

What would make this one perfect would have been Cairns Blue or Rimini Red but I do like the Galway Green VERY VERY MUCH as well so there you go.

Being an AB it has almost all the toys I want. It doesn't have the Vision Assist Package (the 5 cameras) and I would have liked that but not paid extra for it to put things in perspective. It doesn't have the RSE again would never ever pay any extra for that and prefer to give the girls their tablets.

In short, I'm very very happy with this car and glad the Bournville fell through.

Some pics, Gary will make some more once he picked it up.

Would you mind telling us what was wrong with the turbo, especially if this was a 4.4L TDV8, could be educating... l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

No idea what was wrong, they said they would replace the turbo.

My concern is why did it fail, oil starvation, EGR issues, thrashing the car. Has the cause of the turbo failure been resolved, what about the second turbo, is that going to fail soon as well etc. It was the 3.6 engine by the way.

Also I am aware that the TDV8s in general seem to have turbo / turbo hose / injector issues every now and then. The SC engines seem to be completely bullet proof and that is one reason for me to want them. Plus that I love the massive amount of power and driveability.

And yes the Bournville issues were a blessing in disguise and I'm glad Gary is doing the hard work for me sorting that out as well (trying to get the deposit back).

But to be honest, once I really started thinking about the potential for more turbo issues and/or engine issues, I decided that that car really wasn't for me. So even if this SC hadn't shown up, I would still have cancelled the buy and kept looking. We all know the risks with FFRRs and I am not prepared to risk it, especially since it will be with friends for more than half a year and I don't want them to have any issues while they are doing me a favour (drive it from time to time and keep it in a safe place).

I'm looking forward to driving the car (hope I have a European work visit soon) and I have been looking at Malaysian off-roading and it looks brilliant. So once the car is here, I will let it see some dirt and test the terrain response. I am pretty sure without the TR, I will be hopeless as I have absolutely no experience off-roading !! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Thanks for the feedback.

I am currently seeking 4.4L TDV8 feedback as I am on the market for either a 4.4L TDV8 or a S/S Whistle

Thanks. You know have 6 month to learn everything about off road technics (book, magazines, online, local off roading schoo) before you get the Rangie Dirty. Thumbs Up l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Diesel in Malaysia?????

Nice looking car and still a rare sight in Malaysia (wife Malaysian so forced to suffer paradise every Xmas). Can't believe though that you were even contemplating a diesel when unleaded so very very cheap over there for expats.

Would love to know your shipping costs, not moving yet but considering shipping something to stay at sis inlaws and to use for month we are there.

@Gary
About 1000 GBP to Port Klang by container with a UK specialist car transport company. Clearance cost in Malaysia about 1500 SGD (agent I'm using is Singapore based, hence the Sing price).

Diesel is not expensive either only the road tax is more expensive but with my kind of KMs that will even out quickly. I am glad to have found the SC because as above I highly prefer them Smile

@verydisco, yes will do some book learning first and might book my first drive in our (company) RAV4 or use one of the schools cars. But I do prefer to go off-roading in the FFRR finally, I didn't get it to be on asphalt all the time. My MY06 never really saw the dirt, only the Nigerian potholed roads and waterholes/puddles of Lagos. Mind you some of them are a challenge and once the SC struggled a tiny bit getting through a deep puddle with loose gravel at the bottom but that was all.

Ciao,

congrats Eugene - lovely car.

i made the mistake of test driving a 2011 5.0 SC yesterday - oh boy how i want it - wife says i can buy if i want to - however just bought a 4.2SC just more than 3 weeks ago.

however this one is on the market for like R569000 (GBP 32346) whilst most of them are R650k or more. mileage is 61000kms (38125miles) with full LRSH and 39000kms (24375miles) left on LR full maintenance plan.

will most probably take it if the nett deal (their price less my trade in/px) works out

once again congrats with your car - hope you have many thousands of miles and smiles with it

@vnitos, I will definitely keep an eye out for you next time we are in Joburg (my wife has family there) and surroundings !!! Go for it mate, they are the car to drive !!!!

Price isn't too bad relatively speaking I guess the Rand has taken a hit lately (I keep an eye on the exchange rate in case we decide to buy a place there).

I'm really looking forward to driving this one !!! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Thanks Frank, feels good to be part of the SC club with a combined 9.2 liter engine capacity (the MY06 has not been sold yet).

I'm really looking forward to driving the 5.0 SC. I have never even seen one up close (can't keep up with them!!) so really keen on driving it. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
