Another design ruined.

Looks too much like the evoke, too much like every other SUV/Chelsea tractor that the other, late to the party manufacturers wheel out, it will never see any action above mounting the kerb. Current:

I like it. Evoque front end, X5 back end. Modern, stylish and looks quite practical. Yeah, I'd have one.

Thoughts? 94X/ML/Santa Fe/Sport hybrid. None of the pure product design that made the Discovery 3 so good. More of Emperor McGovern's new clothes. It will be a huge success.

Hopefully the Discovery replacement proper (Discovery now being a range of models incorporating the Freelander's role) will be less gimmicky and over-styled - not sure how big this concept is, but it certainly fits better as a Freelander replacement.

^^ I dislike it, given the caveat that I HATED the D3 to begin with when that came out, as it was so slab sided. Now it looks chunky and cool in its own way, but this might grow on me too. Doubt it though; I've always disliked the 'hippo face' front end demonstrated here and on the Evoque/FL1!

I like it although reminds me of a victorian bathtub. I think the back is a major improvement and far nicer than the new Sport  Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

It's good , not as has been said as great pice of designee like the Disco 3 but it moves the brand forward. Sniff Petrols comments about it being a Saab ring true but I always loved Saab's . I just always hate the fact that concept car interiors are just so lovely but the production reality has to be so dull . 2008 MY Supercharged

Looks like two great attributes of the Discovery are lost to style, i.e. decent third row seats and a tremendous load space. Might as well have the Sport. Graham

How many of you lot would swap your modern Range Rover for a Series-One ? That's evolution for you, new stuff comes along and takes the place of the older styled, less technological things. Does anyone remember the controversy when Ford replaced the Cortina with the "Jelly Mould" Sierra? Oooh Err, scandal, it's new and that simply won't do !!

I wouldn't buy an Evoque but the cold hard facts are it is massively popular and it shows the way things are moving in terms of style. Once again JLR leading, not following with bold and futuristic, yet practical designs that have underpinnings which remain faithful to the origins. Sure, most of these vehicles will never venture off tarmac, and I'll bet most L322's don't either. But that Evoque (love it or hate it) is massively capable off road.

The new Discovery "family" will be no different, and to be brutally frank, I'm thankful that we have people in JLR who look forwards with their designs rather than the old school who penned such things as the "MetroCab" P38 Range Rover. Styled by Reliant, Engineered with whatever they had lying around, wired by Renault, and all the build quality of the average cereal packet.

Think about it. Which would you choose?
Disco 1 or Disco 4?
Series-1 or RR Classic
RR Classic or L405?
Series-2 or Disco 2?
The newer, the better in most cases, P38 excepted of course. I'd sooner have a Classic than that "thing" any day.

This D5 is just an evolution on the same general principles, i.e. Modern design, practicality and uncompromised off-road ability. Properly Land Rover.

PS, even if you can't bring yourself to like it, remember it will be generating revenue for LR to spend on developing the next generation of FFRR

Don't like but I don't like the softroader/crossover looks of the L405/Sport/Evoque series either much; although they may be good vehicles and have to be designed to comply with with various eco/safety/EU rules. This also to me looks like a Ford Explorer.

The older Discos, Range Rovers, and even Freelander were individually designed vehicles and could easily be identified.

Maybe I'll have to save up and but a G Wagen if I want anything that looks slightly butch and macho on the road rather than something designed for a run up to the local prep school. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t
