You've got £750 to spend in May. On what?

Hi,

Got until the end of this month to spend £750 on anything maintenance/ vehicle upkeep related for the SC.

Its LR warrantied/breakdown covered for 12 months, has just been MOT'd & MD serviced, just had a new battery, a new SC water pump and as far as I know is fully fettled and bang up to date (this is one pampered SC).

Car has done 76,000 MD serviced miles, excellent tyre tread all round and the ZF gearbox was MD serviced late last summer too.

However, experience suggests there will always be something... Banging Head

Possibilities:

A. Fit rear Brembo discs and pads to the rear to compliment the front set done 8 weeks ago.

B. Buy a pair of facelift rear LED light units, although the front of the car is not facelifted/ rest of the car is stock.

C. Buy tyres and store them.

D. Have the supercharger oil changed.

E. Put it towards buying a further 12 months LR warranty, meaning the car is warrantied until May 2016.

F. Etc etc etc

Serious question so any constructive ideas would be gratefully appreciated please as it would be a shame to overlook something, miss the opportunity and then in a month or so be lamenting, "if only..." Question

As ever, thanks in anticipation.

Thumbs Up

Personally, if nothing needs doing currently, which looks to be the case - as dull as it sounds, I would extend the warranty…. 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

Why £7.50 Whistle ....you wont get much for that Sniggering Laughing

In serious though I guess you have an iid tool or equivalant for the just in case, if the FF is that good I'd snap it up and just leave the money till somthing breaks and you have a 12 month warranty so happy days there Thumbs Up

Theres no point thinking the 'what if' you'll just 'not get and regret later on' ! If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

a..the rears are not brembos afaik
b..if you get led rear lights it wont be long before you spend loads of money for the front upgrade..[pamela wont like that!!]
c..they'll always be tyres about to buy.
d..s/c oil will be £27 plus labour so you'll have a bit more to spend.
e..warranty? because you have a 'devil' car it might be worth it Mr. Green

Thanks All so far.

@Stan,

A. I knew the factory front SC calipers were Brembo, mated with "genuine LR discs and pads", which as we know, the front discs and pads can be replaced with genuine Brembo products. My understanding was that the rear calipers on this model are not Brembo but that again, one could replace rear LR discs and pads with Brembo ones?

E. A "devil car" Embarassed ... That's 2 of 3 replies so far leaning towards more warranty. Interesting.

Thumbs Up

Rear are not Brembos, but S/C needs to be flushed indeed.

So I would say S/C flush + rear pads and discs if really needed + a IID tool if you do not have one. Thumbs Up

otherwise, go for the extended waranty, if it is a serious one it may save you lots. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

I would recommend getting both the front and rear diff oil changed. And maybe treat it to a coolant flush.

Thanks chaps, all good and interesting stuff to consider.

Prop,

1. The front Diff has been replaced under warranty within the past 12 months too so would I be correct in thinking that would mean no pressing need to change the front Diff oil?

2. In the absence of any advisory from the MD, given that the rear Diff is also covered under warranty, would I be safe to say on that one, "spend the money elsewhere" (I don't know the answer, hence I'm asking)? Thumbs Up

Overall, the extended warranty seems to be catching most votes so far, although would obviously need to put some money to that, which would be fine.

Please do keep any observations coming!

Thumbs Up

If you have nothing needing immediate attention, the warranty has got to be favourite Thumbs Up

pld118,

As your front diff has recently been replaced then no oil change required for that I guess, but I would still consider getting the rear diff oil changed even if its covered under warranty.

I recently had my rear diff oil changed and it surprised me how mucky it was. From what I have been told the rear diffs on TDV8's and 4.2SC's suffer with water getting into the oil somehow. and as I watched the oil being drained from my rear diff its clear from the state of the oil that it was well in need of a change. I also noticed after the rear diff oil change it ran a bit smoother, but maybe that's just a placebo effect.

Another thing that might be worthwhile considering is getting the underneath of your car undersealed or wax oiled etc.

Lap dances...... Whistle

Failing that, a nice weekend away in the ff.

Personally having read all the stuff you have had done, there cant be too much else to drop off! So would you get your money back from the warranty in repairs? In which case would the money better serve you on a nice relaxing break, bottle of wine or two and drown out the worry or potential mechanical catastrophe.....

Just did my diffs too.... Buy the fluid from dan, and get a local garage to do it! Prettty simple, though its not a "fill to the hole" operation, more a "put exactly the correct amount in" which is in rave.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
