I recall Graham (A1GSS) has/had one. Worth asking him.

VW Audi UK forum has a section on A8 and is usually a good Audi forum if you're not aware of it (worth a try):

Thumbs Up

Here's some info I gave bellini a few days ago funnily enough:

A few things here, all based on my own experience... mine's a current model (D4 series) A8 3.0 quattro standard wheelbase car.

I sold my FF because I didn't like the driving experience, I thought the TDV8 engine wasn't a match for the quality of the car. The 3.0 V6 diesel in the A8 is fantastically better.

If you go for the previous shape (2010 and earlier) then I'd recommend you try before you buy, I found the 3.0 engine a bit underpowered, the 4.2 was fab but not 40mpg.

Some A8s are not quattro / 4WD.

I've now done 30k in the A8 and continue to love it. I would summarise the pros and cons as follows:

PRO
Economical (40+ mpg, £195 road tax, £300 for a service)
Quiet except for road noise from my 20" tyres
Very comfortable, wide range of elec / memory adjustment on seat (20-way)
Beautiful interior
Black looks lovely when it's cleaned
Great build quality

Even the FBH works reliably Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Unusual - don't see very many
Good Satnav
Very adaptable
Quattro 4WD is very sure footed in snow / wet / slippery conditions but it's no offroader obviously
It's been extremely reliable (touch wood)

CON
Looks like an A4
Noise from 20" tyres (way better on the 18" winters)
Black paint marks easily
Boot not the biggest
Middle seat in the back is only really for occasional use
Needs 4 wheel alignment twice a year
It's very wide, parking sometimes an issue
Thick pillars at side, visibility not perfect and nothing like the commanding view from a FF or the D3

Hope this helps! Graham

Thanks Graham went to the local audi dealers today and had a look at a couple of a8 also looked at a q7 but that's a no go.

Agree with you on interior and build quality and looks in black.mpg now not as big a consideration as commute to work will now only be 10miles a day as opposed to 75 a day swmbo got a new job closer to home, like the cheap road tax and servicing costs.

Really just looking for a change but still looking for a car with 4wd which will also tow the caravan, also considered a a6 estate but 1/2year old a8 look much better value.

Problem now after looking she now wants a lwb as they had two black one next to each other a swb and lwb .

If you have an appointment do you have to set off a little earlier if you're travelling in the back?
