Whilst the Oil Additive thread is running, let me ask another question.

Tuning, box of chips thingies not sure if that is the technical term. I see them advertised all over the place from Ebay to motoring mags. They can be had for well under £100 to many hundreds. But what do they actually do

Anybody have one, used one or would use one

Do they work

Can they damage the cars mechanics or electrics

I have never been tempted by them as I am not a power freak, but they clearly sell, so why.

I would go the remap route.

To my knowledge, the boxes fool the fuel system by using a resistor so it thinks there is less fuel going in, and so puts more fuel in, so you get more power. The trouble is that nothing else is taken into account, such as exhaust temperature and turbo boost pressure etc.

I've had a couple of diesel Land Rovers remapped, by Td5Alive (now Alive Tuning) and JE Engineering. Very impressed with the results that route.

Other will have more experience of the boxes.....

And it's not all about power. It's torque and drivability. Much safer at junctions........ I don't rev mine hard...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
