how a ffrr looks

looking for my 'dream machine' on the web i've noticed that some ffrr's look better than others..they seem to sit better on the road ...would this be down to the suspension setting and if so whats the best setting for normal day to day motoring...

They automatically go to normal ride height.

Other heights are Access (for getting in), off road (for errr... Wink ) and extended which you can't select manually, for getting off obstacles off road.

At access or offroad height, it'll go to normal when you move away and get to something like 15mph to 20 mph.

There are no 'settings' to play with. All FFRRs ride at the same height. Visual comparison differences will be due to people putting the car into access height for photos and/or different alloy wheel sizes. Discovery 4 HSE

Not sure why it would. System should be air-tight.

Having said that though, my dealer (well, where I got it) told me to leave it in access if you park for any time as it stops the car trying to self level, which is better for the car. Question

Think there is also the 'just below normal driving height' (no manual control) that the car adopts at higher speeds (i.e. when on motorways etc). So there are 5 height variations in total I believe. Steve

Any 1 know how you can set extended off road height?

That is the 1 higher than the normal high setting.

Don't know if you can do it on later ones, or possibly I dreamt it altogether, but press and hold the up switch??

The motorway setting (lowers over 62mph/100kph) was deleted from later models. Not sure when, but I think only pre facelift cars have it. 05 model or earlier. Later ones have a "High Speed" setting instead that lowers the car by 20mm... providing you are doing in excess of 100mph/160kph.

The extended feature can not be reached from what I remember. It only goes into that if the FFRR is already at off road height and the car detects that it has become grounded on an obstacle.

But there is an extra-extended setting that can only be reached (driver selectable) once the FFRR has already had to go to extended height on it's own. (according to the owners manual of my 2006 model)

Edited as I got curious and went and got my manual out... Smile

I don't think mine drops at speed. To be fair though, with the electronics on the later one, it doesn't need to!

I did one of the land rover experience days and the guy showed me what happened if you started to swerve wildly at speed. It just kept stiffening up and applying the brakes to steady the car. It stopped within a few moments of starting the steering wheel jerks. Very impressive.....

Fox, was about to answer the same and was impressed with your knowledge. I thought only I was so nerdy to know all that stuff!

If you read it all from the manual it doesn't count as much!!

The 100mph drop in ride height seems a bit high but I guess it's handy at those speeds. You can't fool the car into extended mode but supposedly can get it even higher once it's there as you said. I did once get my td6 into extended mode by fluke not offloading but it wouldn't go higher. Discovery 4 HSE

When i fitted side tubes to mine Ken got my car into full height mode but articially letting the car think it was offroad using ramps etc and got the car very high so we could get access underneath.

I have never recreated it but the car was very high Shocked

There's a guy on ebay from Newcastle area that can change all your suspension setting. Not seen his work or anything but think it's more for lowering the car.
