Handbrake retaining spring (wheel bearing noise?) | |
Recently I had a noise from my rear O/S wheel, the noise was speed dependent and convinced me I had a wheel bearing gone.
I ordered the parts in to change wheel bearing and as I was stripping out the hub I found the reason for the noise, One of the spring and pins that retains the handbrake shoe had pulled through the back plate and was rubbing the inside of the brake disc.
When I went to dealers to buy the part apparently this is quite common, I suppose as the vehicle gets on in age, it weakens allowing the retaining pin to pull through the back plate.
So if you think you have a rear wheel bearing gone it's worth checking.
The pin and spring are parts 11/12 in the diagram below and cost 85p!
