titanum silver spokes

Yet another job ticked off the todo list.
Was fed up looking at the polished black plastic spokes on the steering wheel I too decided to go silver, oh so much better look.
Spray painted titanium silver and 3 coats of lacquer, all done in the conservatory too Thumbs Up Laughing

Looks very nice, and a definite improvement over the black.

I have the silver ones to fit on mine, just not gotten round to doing it yet as tossing up whether to get a new steering wheel as well as mine is pretty shiny. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

I've seen the silver spokes you can buy on powerfull and i think they'd look nice. The airbag puts me off though. Was it difficult?

I was going to buy new spokes but now I'll get the old rattle can going. I use Simoniz Silver wheel spray which works a treat and looks very much like Titanium.

Is removing the airbag simple? Geoff

air bag is a doddle you can use a knitting needle as well un spiked or grind the end off a thin screwdriver push into the hole either side of the back and pull as you insert to get it off a side at a time my mrs could do it Smile _____________________________________________________

Looks great, was thinking of something along those lines. Question though - did you use a primer and if so what type?

Air bag is pretty simple to take off, it just needs a bit of patience to get the clips to release, was easier for me as i had a wheel i was replacing so could see the clips. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

thanks chaps, ok to answer a few questions, the air bag is a doddle to do, just disconnect the negative on the battery first. The primer I used was a plastic grey primer, this one from these guys...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-X-BULK-Plastic...20c3f25081

The silver is a BMW paint code 354

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/spray-paint-Lacq...51b06569e2

I used mentholated spirits first to clean of the black rubbery coating then sanded down with 240 then 600 paper.

3 ( maybe 4 ) coats of lacquer and job done.
Left for 15, 20 minutes between coats ( except primer that was 12 hours) and 1 hour between lacquer drying and fitting as it was nice and warm today in the conservatory, fitted all together and job done!

Its worth doing and not that Im a tight arse, 90 quid for plastic pieces is just taking the rise imo.

The youtube how to's helped Thumbs Up

In less then 24 hours you guys too could have nice shiny spokes Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

£90 for plastic pieces from certain sellers. I paid half that for the same items from a different seller. Genuine parts, too.

Anyway, easy job, even for a twit like me. Si. <This is my name.

This looks like the next job for me....I changed the wheel on my D3 some years back. Turn to 90deg and release clip, is it similar ?

Little surprised Conor (Googsy) isn't on this thread...I may beat him to 'piano spokes' Whistle Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........
