Help now please - Hard battery reset - How ?

I'm sorry, I've searched and can't find exactly how to do a 'Hard Battery Reset' (If infact that is what I need ?)

OK, driving my 2005 4.2 SC with 70 miles left on range computer when all power lost and vehicle in some sort of limp mode and not able to accelerate, eventually stopped and would not restart.

Long story short, filled up with fuel and all was perfectly OK except the EML stays on all the time.

What should I do to reset it ?

Hi,

I assume you don't have an IID tool or similar. There is a battery disconnect/reconnect in the Wiki (near the top of the 'How To' section.

Cheers,

Thanks Andy, no, don't have a tool.

I saw the battery bit in Wiki, do I leave the battery disconnected for any length of time ?

I think I saw on another post somewhere, about 30 minutes. Not sure it will clear the MIL, but worth a try.

Cheers,

Andy

I hope it works for you mate.

Nice area Headcorn, almost moved there a few years ago, but ended up in Offham near Maidstone instead.

I think you are right! Hope it goes OK. I don't think my IID would be any good as I had to re-flash it for a MY2010-12 model after I got rid of the 2006 S/C Crying or Very sad

Anyway, lettuce know how it goes! Very Happy SDV8 AB MY 2019

OK, will do.

I've also tried the fibre optic cable procedure in WIKI with the BT unit but that has made no difference

Good news on the EML. Thumbs Up

When you disconnected the battery had you let the vehicle stand for 20 mins or so to ensure all the ECUs had gone to sleep before the disconnect?

As Stan says, leave it locked for a while, let it all shut down and reboot. It's a bit like a Windows PC but just even more unreliable. Rolling Eyes 2006 4.2 SC

I'll leave it alone and check tomorrow Thumbs Up

Had that with mine last year after a reset. After a couple of hours the head unit fired up no problem. Think the ECU/MOST system takes a while to untwist it's knickers (technical term) Very Happy SDV8 AB MY 2019
