Aircon only out of passenger side???

Morning All,

Got a bit of a problem with the aircon in that it only works on the passenger side not the drivers side. This is a major problem as my wife, who originates from a very much warmer country hates the cold while I am Scottish and don't like to be hot. I have aircon seats which work well on both sides.

Question is does anyone think I am low on gas? Does the seat cooling system use the aircon? has anyone else experienced this and is it an easy fix.

Would like to keep costs down as my weekend toy just came out of service with a rather hefty bill which Mrs M is not aware of yet Shocked Current:

Not going to be a cheap fix sir Whistle Usually down to the stepper motors failing Rolling Eyes

Your seats don't use the same system, so no gas there...

And its worth checking the gas level but would be surprised if it affects the individual sides... Neutral

Low gas DOES give this quirky little annomoly .... I had same last year and explored all the possibilities off FUBARD blend motors etc.

I plugged in my IID and pulled up the live values for the evaporator temperature and system pressure and found the temp in evaporator was pretty much ambient temp with max aircon on (hot day) yet cold air was coming out of left side vents.

I posted a while back my theory on why the differential occurs but it's just my thoughts - may not be correct.

Anyway after a regas it was running fine and evaporator temp was down to about 3 degrees, system pressure at rest was slightly higher too so presumably gas was low enough to affect efficiency but not low enough to trip the low pressure cut off.

Mine ran fine all last summer then started showing the same symptoms again few weeks ago, quick check of live values again confirmed the same - had it regassed again 2 weeks ago and back to being perfect.

A leak test was performed but NOTHING was found - Indy and I concluded there must be a very tiny leak somewhere.

Other symptom worth mentioning is a quiet whine audible in cabin while clutch engaged both times - again, vanished instantly after regass.

Initially the feeling of nice cool air from left tricks you into thinking gas is fine - it's only after regassing you realise the cool air is not the icy cold air you should get from the system.

^ I can con cure as I have a very similar car and very similar symptoms i,e, only cold on passenger side as gas gets lower and audible whine at idle . Takes a very long time for the gas to go down so have never traced the leak just make sure you have the rear heat/air turned on when you get a re-gas Thumbs Up 2008 MY Supercharged

My 4.2 SC had the same when the AC went low. It takes about one year for it to deplete so also tiny leak and also performance reducing (to one side eventually). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I have to admit to being guilty of not using the aircon on a regular basis, which I am told you must do to keep it in good condition, but when its freezing outside its very difficult to justify hitting that little button, unfortunately I don't live in Australia or Malaysia Big Cry Current:

Another way to look at it is A, it keeps your windows de-misted in the winter Thumbs Up & B, it stops your ECU's condensating through the winter if you use the AC...

You already own the thirstiest of FF's whats 0.5 of a MPG less anyway... Whistle
