Hello whoami ....did you mean the rubberised straps that support the lower tailgate when it's open?....if so, this thread may be of interest

On a 2 year old car it does sound strange.

Hi chaps, no, the metal pneumatic struts connecting the top part of the tailgate.

They are both very visibly rusty around the end you can see when the tailgate is open.

Seems very poor on a relatively new car.

Ahh..the gas struts that hold the upper tailgate up and open....yes, as prop said, most surprising on a 2012 car...me be worth a trip to the. LR main dealer to see if you can make a corrosion warranty claim. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

Hi Paul, yes the gas struts on the upper tailgate.

I'll certainly be taking it to the dealer but just wondered if anyone else had noticed this as it seems strange on such a new car.

Still, I'm always lucky as I seem to get loads of things that the dealer claims never to have seen before. Laughing

My struts are over 7 years old and no rust on mine so would say yours are definitely worth mentioning to the LR dealer and hopefully they will be replaced.

I am taking the car to the dealer this week about something else. Will mention the corrosion then.

Looking at them, I fully expect them to be replaced.
