It is rather galling to be treated like a second class citizen just because you didn't buy the BT version

They got their update well over two months ago.... I mean, how different can the update be, they do the same thing, they just have a different way of displaying it.

I bought the non BT because to me it just seemed like another "thing" to go wrong in the system.

Had it stated on their website that they couldn't be bothered with updates for the non BT tool and that they were spending all their time updating the associated apps that they need to run the BT version then at least we would have known.....

Treating customers like this and then blatantly ignoring them on the web site where they peddle their goods is very poor customer service. Pete

Pete, drop Patrik an email asking to be included in the beta program. He should then create a link for you to install v 3.0 (beta). To be honest, apart from the USB-Laptop thingy (which I am yet to try), I haven't found much difference, apart from having to press the (-) instead of the (+) to move "forward" through the menus. I haven't fully explored things yet, as too busy clearing "reservoir pressure static" faults Laughing .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Jo, Cheers, I know what you mean, just a bit upset that they seem to have forgotten about us...

RP123....

Well that's weird.... I updated the program to it's latest release and it says I have the most up to date version at 2.7

I'll try again.... Pete

I did, had it on the laptop and updated the installer... still says 2.7 is the latest...

Got on the PC, went onto their site, got into my account... big red sign under my firmware saying "update" clicked on it, downloaded the installer to the PC, connected the tool... still says it's fully updated at 2.7

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pete

Hi Guys

Haylands: I am quoting you but this is to put in context, no hard feeling and criticism is always welcomed.

Quote:

Quite the contrary, the regular IIDTool fills up a market space, his still selling well and we expect it will continue to do so. This in turn justifies updating these units too. It does help to keep the value of the tool up and our long time customers happy.

Quote:
They got their update well over two months ago.... I mean, how different can the update be, they do the same thing, they just have a different way of displaying it.

Actually, it is a little more complex. The non Bluetooth (first and second generation, hardware change du to discontinued parts) and Bluetooth IIDTool do not share the same hardware platform therefore each of them require a specific firmware and development cycle (beta testing etc). A few months back, we’ve taken the decision to include all new features available on the IIDTool BT (except multiple vehicle support which is not possible) in the non Bluetooth IIDTool even if this was not planned in the beginning. At one point, we could have drawn a line and say ok, this is too complex for the non Bluetooth hardwares but we want every customer to benefit from the new additions. This raised a few technical difficulties which inevitably increases development time. For example, we’ve added the destination entry on the move and Telephone / Bluetooth firmware updates for 2005-2009 RR’s. Since those re-flash require a significant amount of memory space which is not available in the tool itself, we had to develop the PC based interface which allows controlling and streaming data to the vehicle. Of course, these systems are not fitted to 2002-2004 vehicles but owners will also benefit from this PC based interface. For example, if your pixels or cruise control buttons are non-functional, you can still control the tool and perform diagnostic. The PC based interface capabilities will also be increased in time.

In regards to firmware validation, since pretty much all our good beta testers have now switched to an IIDTool BT or no longer own a RR 02-09, the feedback we receive from regular IIDTool users has diminished substantially. Add the multiple vehicle variants and this explains why it takes longer than expected to release.

We are very cautious with what we release to prevent issues to users but this result in longer delays. Therefore, if any of you feel comfortable with beta testing, contact us at GAPTeam AT gap-diagnostic.com and we will grant you access to V3.0.

If you have any additional questions or comments, feel free to do so.

Cheers

So if I've read that right, multi vehicle will not be supported on the non BT version, as it's not possible, even with the new software release installed ?

Not even just for reading and clearing faults ?

Thanks 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Not quite, here's our new VIN lock policy:

Standard diagnostic functions (free of charge on any supported vehicles*)
• Fault read / clear
• Live values
• Control outputs
• Service / test functions

Enhanced diagnostic functions (one free VIN, extra VINs are available if needed*):
• ECU Re-flash (when possible)
• Component and system calibration (including suspension height adjustments)
• Advanced functions including backup / restore, save profiles – vehicle system settings and
configurations are read and stored as a backup file for a restore function, various changes
to systems (e.g. suspension height) can be stored and changed quickly

* IIDTool BT: Can be used on any supported vehicle type (L322, L320, L319...)

Regular IIDTool: Can only be used on the same vehicle type the tool was destined for. For example, a regular IIDTool for Range Rover 2006-2009 can only be used on those vehicles.

Hope this clears things up.

Cheers

Ah, I read multiple vehicle with a different meaning in your post above. You mean multiple vehicle types.

Understand now.

Many thanks
