Hi all got a new bootlid that needs painting!

Can you remove the rubber strip between the painted area and the glass? Current stable:

Yes, I believe it slides out sideways. Might be hard getting going due to age.

When I got mine done on my TD6, I paid someone to remove the glass too, as the replacement tailgate was a completely different colour.

Mine was falling apart so I took a block of wood, sat it against the end of the strip and tapped the wood with a hammer to drive the strip out. It's too tight to just push out.

Once I had enough pushed out, I was able to grip it in my hand and pull it the rest of the way. I didn't replace it as later models don't have it.

It did leave a line on the painted surface where the edge of the rubber had dug into the paint over the years. Ron B. VK2OTC

As mentioned above, it is unlikely to slide out. Dirt and deteriorating rubber tend to seize it soild into place.
Work the side edge loose with a thin block of wood or, extremely carefully NOT to touch the glass, with a screwdriver and a mallet. Once enough length has been removed to give you grip for a pair of pliers just pull the thing away along the glass bottom by pliers first, hand then.
You won't need to fit another one. LR did away with the rubber strip on later models.

I removed it from my last L322. I used a brass drift and a hammer and started tapping it from the OS to the NS and once it was part of the way out I was able to do it by hand.

Again, I didn't replace it as the newer cars don't have it and I thought the lines looked much cleaner without it. I'm probably going to remove it from this SC we've got now too.

It did need quite a "tap" to get it to start moving IIRC.
