United Kingdom 2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Santorini Black
L322 2002 Vogue O/S Wing mirror focus

Afternoon all,

Is it just my vehicle or does anyone else experince a blind spot the size of a transit van in the d/s wing mirror? The focus on my d/s mirror is completely different from the p/s. Is this correct on all 2002-2005 vogues or has someone replaced my wing mirror with an aftermarket one.

Thanks

Smiggy

I agree. Focus is OK with me, but there is a big blind spot. If I ever plan to move out a lane, I always have to look over my shoulder. Wasn't a problem in my P38? Think the mirrors had more convex in them. .

Totally agree, both of mine were totally useless when I got it, you could lose a 7 1/2 ton lorry in the blind spot...

Bought two of these, they do the passenger side as well...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Driver-side-Wing...3f1f18ed71

Did a before and after and the furthest point that you could see against the outside edge of the old mirror is now more than half way across the mirror, blind spot totally gone... absolutely brilliant...

You do lose the auto dimming feature but it doesn't worry me as long as the interior mirror has it....

If you do change the mirrors it's much easier to take the back off the mirror housing first.... Pete

Gotta be worth a try. Not sure if I have auto dim on the HSE, they are heated. .

@Joe 90 - just look at your glass. If they are auto-dim, it will have a goldish tint, if the tint is greeny blue then they are just heated (also for auto-dim door mirrors you must have the (optional) auto-dim interior mirror.

I have the auto dim interior rear view mirror (tested with torch and everything!), but woulnd't say my external mirrors have a goldish tint. Out with the torch again to see what happens Smile .

If you have auto-dim, then when you dim the interior one with the torch, the exterior ones should dim too (they use the same sensor, which is why you have to have the interior dim option before you could specify auto dim exteriors).

However, the gold tint is quite different from the green-blue of the normal (just heated) glasses, so if you don't see a noticeable gold tint, you probably don't have them (or someone at some stage has broken both mirror glasses and just replaced with standard, the auto-dim ones are considerably more expensive. I fit a pair of these, because of the same problem. Got them from the same company, pain to fit. They don't line up that well with the original mounting plate, but for the price, they are not going to be perfect. Had to get the Dremel out and remove a bit of the plastic from the back of them (after breaking one Rolling Eyes ), and put a blob of silicone on the back to keep them in place.

No blind spot now, and not that much difference without the auto dimming, and they look a lot better than the 12 year old ones Thumbs Up

My Drivers Side arrived today so set about fitting it this evening.

Old one came off easily enough, following RAVE instructions of levering up from below. Seems I have the auto dim as aside from the two lucar connectors I also had another connector on the mirror. Then dropped old mirror on gravel! Fortunately it didn't break Smile

Found it was easier to remove the cover and ring on the mirror for better access for refitting.

I stuck the auto-dim connector to the back plate of the mirror housing with some duct tape to keep it out of the way and stop it from jangling about in the housing.

After a few attempts to fit the new one, I followed Mike.Boro's advice and took a craft knife to the leading edges of the "hooks" on the new mirror to enable "easing on". Also took a smidgin off the lugs on the mounting plate.

You then have to be brave and manly and use some force to bend the mirror onto the mounting plate and push down at the same time (another of those three handed jobs you have to do with two Thumbs Up ). eventually it is on, and you can press it down into place.

Refit cover and ring

No complaints from Message Centre.

Road Test tomorrow Wink .

Much better, blind spot gone, rear view mirror and wing mirror working together, vehicle in next lane out either in mirror and/or in physical view, even better for two lanes out!

Why have I waited six years to do this mod Question Twisted Evil

Just have to get out of the habit of looking over my shoulder now Laughing .

Glad you like it Jo, it is quite a difference... do the other side and you won't lose a thing in a blindspot...

Did mine a while ago, and sorry I forgot I had to do a bit of whittling to get them to fit..... worth a bit of hassle though.... Pete

Nearly wiped some one out on the M6 on Saturday because of the blind spot. They were completely invisible. Is there any fix that allows you to keep your auto dimming feature ?

Don't think so, unless you can find a replacement/after market that is convex and has heated and auto dim .
