Do I take the door card off as a precaution?

Exterior door handle cable on drivers door snapped yesterday

New cables (exterior and interior handles) are on order from Dan and will be with me on Wed - doesnt seem a difficult job per threads on here

In the meantime, I need to use the car and I'm petrified the interior handle cable may snap, resulting in £££'s to rectify (I understand you have to trash the door card to get to the mechanism and open the door if both cables snap Big Cry )

If I take the door card off tonight, can I just grab the interior cable to open the door?

Cheers,

Just a thought, but if you unlock the car using the remote, cant you then get in the passenger side (or drivers side rear door) and open the drivers door from the inside?

Paul, that is how I am getting in at the moment

Lock/unlock is fine, but if the interior handle cable breaks I will be unable to open the door, even though it is unlocked Big Cry

If I've taken the door card off, I will at least be able to get at the mechanism if the worst happens, rather than having to cut through the door card (no way to get it off if the door is closed) 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

if you did take the door off graeme ,you will loose the facility to move the window up/down, mirrors in/out etc...also you wont be able to use the handle as its on the door card.. ... - .- -.

Probably didnt make it clear! What I was thinking was to get in by the passenger door then 'scoot' over to the drivers seat.

@Stan - I know I will lose the handle etc., but is it possible to open the door by pulling the cable?

@Paul - I see what you mean now, a way of minimising the number of times I need to use the interior handle before replacing the cables 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!
