Should I be worried?

My wallet's starting to sweat!

Driving along the motorway today and bing bong, "engine system fault" displays on the dash. No other lights of any kind. Car goes into limp home mode. Pull onto the hard shoulder. Stop/start, seems ok. Happened again another couple of times on the way home.

IIDTool only has PO23D-22(68 ) , unknown and PO480-13(2F), Fan 1 control messages.

I also noticed that when I kick down there's a puff of black smoke that isn't there at any other time.

Engine sounds fine, but I'm worried this could prove expensive! Big Cry

Anyone got any thoughts? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Maybe the particle filter is glogged up due to lot of town driving ?? Or a turbo hose has split, seems to happen from time to time. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I did think that Eugene, as my dear wife has been using it lately for a lot of stop/start driving.

Was planning an Italian tune up, but the roads were too busy Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

P023D, something to do with your turbo, P0480 low speed cooling fan - if you google these (as I have just done), there is quite a lot of info, a good thread on RRsport leading to Disco 3 with a few things you can check.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

I did find some details about these kind of codes. Most pointed to a MAP (or was that a typo and should be MAF) sensor, getting clogged up.

I did wonder if it might have had anything to do with the unseasonable hot weather? Whistle Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

It may not be a typo. The MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor sits just behind the air filter, measuring the amount of air flowing in. The MAP measures the pressure in the inlet manifold and is a lot harder to reach (well on the SC models, it is fitted on the firewall side of the engine).

You are a bit soft though, ditch the KY and "take it like a man" I would say, and then "cry like a baby" if it hurts badly of course Smile Smile Smile

Good luck MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Split turbo hose

Spooky - Ive just posted the on this very subject on another forum on here. Had precisely the same occurrence a few weeks ago - but mine had not been start stop it had just ferried us 350 miles in luxury. But Day 1 same bing-bong and rectification as you describe. By day 2 and 3 I could predict the precise place on a hill it would happen. Met up with my indie, engine cover off - n/s bank, split you could put three finger in hiding behind the mesh. I had some other work done; new discs and pads up front, and new wiper blades all up = £380, which makes me think that the hose and fitting was about £60+£40 hope you find this is your problem

Hose split

Not an expert, however having seen the sub 45 second it took for the indie to find the problem, here's what he did should you choose to try it.

1 Open bonnet

2 Sharply tug the plastic engine over up and away

3 Observe two hoses toward the front of the car in a kind of Y shape arrangement ( Wink )

4 Look for evidence of oil deposits (pretty obvious!)

5 Look closely at them both under mesh and around (corners) for splits

6 Breath sigh of relief

7 Order new part (using local parts specialist good will to locate updated/n if they are original and thus bearing old p/n)

To stress.. I did not do this, but I stood alongside the indie while he did it.. and this is what I saw

I'm 500 miles away from where the cars going in, but it's in good hands.

Just out of interest, before you started getting these errors, did you notice a kind of "fluttering" noise from what sounded like underneath the car? I have been hearing this for a while, but was really obvious a couple of weeks ago in heavy rain. I wonder if a split pipe would be responsible for that too? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

A "fluttering" noise at anything under 2500-3000rpm?
