Squeak or Tweet causes?

Hi,

I've doubtless bored everyone with previously posted tales of brake squeal and causes/ solutions but... The similar sounding noise has returned from the front end of the car and it does appear associated to wheel revolution.

It's not happening under braking and seems to come on intermittently when the car is travelling between 30 & 40 mph, mostly in a straight line. I wondered if it was happening over bumps or ruts, but it's not and I wondered if it was more prone to occur during left steer action. It occasionally comes on under left steer although it happens more so in a straight line.

The noise only comes on for a second or so before stopping and will stop sooner if I dab the brakes. I'm also sure it happens more when the car is cold and is just at the start of a journey.

I'm also sure there is an oscillating, very low tinny, whirly flutter sound emanating from the direction of the brake shields and which can be heard when the car is being driven with the windows down.

The squeak noise I refer to does sound very much like birds tweeting in the trees... It's not the birds in the trees though!

Yes, I could just take it to a garage but knowing my luck, it won't replicate so I'd rather investigate myself for now.

Could it be a wheel baring, a joint, something suspension related or are the Brembo brake calipers the most obvious source... in your opinion?

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

i have a solution , well its my wife's really and this is what she does.....any unusual sound emanating from the car is solved by winding the windows up and turning up the radio. Mr. Green

seriously it sounds like something is to dry like a bush or similar..does it do the same when driving in the wet ryan? ... - .- -.

Well Stan, my wife never noticed it, clearly proving your [air con] on, windows up and music blasting theory Laughing

Before I regreased the brakes several weeks ago it did it in all weather but I think it's only in the dry I've noticed the noise over the past few days Stan... but I could be wrong and by all accounts, in the coming days, the car will see some wet weather!

Thumbs Up

i've noticed on mine that since fitting the new brembos on the front that there's a slight grind on stopping and i've put that down to the hot weather and the brake bits being new...
i suspect that once the typical british weather comes and the brakes become a bit worn , the 'noise's' will dis-appear.. ... - .- -.

No grind on ours at all Stan just the wheelbarrow squeak I mention... It's driving me nuts and I'm sure there's a correlation with front passenger side wheel and slight left steering turns... Apart from the brake pads and caliper pistons, what else can I grease? ... Apart from the dealer's palm Laughing

thinking aloud here, how about jacking the whole front up ,switch on the engine whilst in park and handbrake on and turning the steering wheel..there wont be any 'weight' on the parts but you might hear something.. ... - .- -.

It's an idea Stan... I'm sure Mrs pld would gladly to volunteer to operate the controls provided I'm standing right in front of the stands and the car! Shocked

Just found this interesting description on ehow when typing in symptoms of a noisy wheel bearing:
"Noise
The most common symptom of a front wheel bearing problem is noise coming from the front tires. The wheels will emit a high-pitched squeak or a rumbling sound, especially during sharp turns. The noise may become louder during acceleration or deceleration, and it may disappear completely when the vehicle is riding at a steady speed. Also, the noise may worsen when the brakes are applied."

Question

In answer to Stan's question, I drove the car in the wet today and no squeaks!

Hoping to remove the front passenger wheel today so as to visibly check the condition of the bushes, then grease them and also grease the suspension arms.

If greasing the bushes/ suspension arms is there any special equipment/ process required and will Comma CV Lith-Moly Grease or Comma Copper Ease (grease) do?

Any how to tips greatly appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation Thumbs Up
