Does Copper Ease (grease) damage rubber?

Hi,

If copper ease is used to grease lower suspension components is there anything in it that could cause rubber bushes, rubber seals or rubber gaiters to become damaged, such as causing the rubber to swell or otherwise degrade?

Thanks.

Mmmm, I wouldn't use a copper based grease in an application like that. I would look at something like Shell Rhodina 2, I have been using it for years on cars and it does super well especially in countries with salt on the roads.

I haven't noticed any issues with rubber. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I wouldn't have thought so as copper grease is used on brakes.

Why would you though, when it's really used for high temperature applications?

Copper ease isn't a lubricant it's an anti seize compound for putting on threads etc before the nut goes on .

yeah im with Stan x2 on the silicon lube. Copper slip / grease is a corrosion inhibitor and not what you want.

Thanks all.

Was curious. Have read other internet views that copper grease won't causing swelling or any form of damage to rubber and yet have also read that mineral based grease can cause swelling/ damage to rubber if applied (don't know if Comma copper ease is mineral based or not?).

The product I had in mind when making the post was Comma copper ease which is sold as a product that:
"Forms a dense protective coating over metal parts that wont wash or burn off. When applied to the back of brake pads it Helps prevent brake disc squeal."

Additionally though it's sold as being a product that:
"Provides excellent protection for metal parts against seizure, corrosion, heat, rust, acid and water."

And it was that last bit of the product description (e.g. protects against corrosion) that had me interpreting/ wondering that it's possibility not exclusively for use on brakes and that it can indeed serve multi purposes?

One thing copper grease does effect is aluminium, it will eat it's way into it over time, so if you have alloy calipers use brake grease..... Pete

Unnecessary quote removed

It cant do as there are rubber seals around the pistons in your brake callipers,it would have been banned years ago on safety ground otherwise.

Went into Halfords yesterday. They didn't have the Shell product recommended by a Ebajema although they had a good selection of silicon based sprays etc.

As it seemed to be the only product stating it was designed, amongst other aplications, for bushes I bought this spray:
WD-40 SPECIALIST ANTI FRICTION DRY PTFE LUBRICANT (£4.99).

And then yesterday evening before I could even try this product on the bushes, the brakes started giving some squeal again under light breaking, more indicative to me of it being pad/ caliper related, however the Brembo calipers show no obvious symptoms of seizure and the brakes didn't squeal before the pads and discs were changed. A wee bit frustrating not to be able to eradicate an annoying little quirk.
