Don't be fooled by FULL main dealer service history...

I have been looking for a 06-08 TDV8 for a friend who knows nothing about cars apart from how to put fuel in...

I had looked at several and all needed work to bring up to good condition, I found one that looked promising and only needed minor paintwork and trim repair so delved deeper into it's history,

It was a one owner 07 plate with 72,000 miles and had a fully stamped up book from the same dealer since new...

I phoned the dealer and asked if any of the fluids had been changed?

The reply was astonishing....

Oh, no sir, it's had economy services since new, it will be fine as nothing else really needs doing!!!!!!

So the guy had skimped on the servicing, the oil had been changed every service and that's about it....

So phone up and check if you are buying a new car, they we very helpful, I didn't have to force the issue at all...

I have since found an absolutely beautiful one from a member on here... Pete

That sounds extraordinary. So they completely disregard the service schedule? How old's the brake fluid?

It had a tick next to brake fluid on the first service!!! then just a squiggle through all the boxes to tick on the later services which at a glance looked like they had been done, but the squiggles were all the same and you don't change it on every service so I guess it was a crossing out and not a tick.... all very confusing.... Pete

Land Rover stealers are not godly-like as they would have us believe!!

Years ago my father bought an 18 month old Discovery 300tdi from a Lancashire dealer with full service history.
When he got it home he noticed there was only the first service filled in and it wasn't by the stealer he'd bought it from.

He contacted them about it and they told him to "call in". When he got there the salesman set about filling in the service book. Father presumed they were going back through records to see what / when had been done but this didn't explainthe way the book was filled in - - each consecutive record was done with a different pen even though the sales guy never left his desk Whistle

I'm not saying it was a load of bo**ocks but...........

Either way, he looked after the car himself afterwards (retired mechanic) and it gave no further problems. Not that the 300 tdi was renowned for problems other than the cam belt which it did suffer from.
